Step Into A Real Life "My Neighbour Totoro" Film In These 4 Locations In Japan
Who knows when we can travel again but there's no harm fantasising about the places we'll visit once we do!
If you're a fan of Studio Ghibli film My Neighbour Totoro, there are four places in Japan that you might want to add to your travel bucket list.
Keep reading to check out four locations in Japan that look like My Neighbour Totoro come to life!
#1 Yunomoto, Miyazaki
This picturesque nature spot near Yunomoto Onsen in Miyazaki has a bus stop with a giant Totoro statue. The surrounding rice fields and mountains mirror that of the film and make the experience even more immersive.
Pose with Totoro while holding an umbrella to recreate that iconic scene in the film!

As this is a residential area, take care not to make too much noise or cause disruption for the locals while you take your IG pictures.
📍 7538-6 Kamamuta, Takaharu, Nishimorokata District, Miyazaki, Japan
#2 Totoro's Forest, Oita

Next is a popular tourist spot known as Totoro no Mori or Totoro's Forest for its similarity to the countryside and forest in My Neighbour Totoro.
The bus stop even has decorative cut-outs of Mei and Satsuki to make you feel like you're in the movie with them.
📍 1368 Ume Oaza Minamitabaru, Saiki City, Oita, Japan
#3 Tataragi Bus Stop, Oita

This IRL Totoro spot is also located in Oita prefecture. Tataragi Bus Stop in Oita's Hita city has a giant wall mural of the Catbus in the film as well as a Totoro standee.
You can't actually catch a bus here though as it's only for school buses. Still, it's a great photo backdrop!
📍 Amagasemachi Gota, Hita, Oita, Japan
#4 Mahoroba no Sato, Kagoshima

Last but not least is this cute, old fashioned bus stop in Kagoshima that has Totoro, Mei and Satsuki plus a giant Catbus sitting on the roof.
📍 3240 Takachiho, Makizono-cho, Kirishima City, Kagoshima, Japan
