Japan’s cafe scene never sleeps, especially in big bustling cities. Shortly after news of a Beauty and the Beast cafe in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, we’re getting all excited once again for another pop-up eatery, and this time, it’s one for the Sanrio fans.
Located within HALEIWA Cafe in Harajuku, Shibuya, this cutesy Pochacco-themed cafe in Tokyo just opened its doors in mid July 2020 and will be running for a limited time only.

HALEIWA Cafe is an eatery selling Western and Hawaiian-style food. While their Pochacco collaboration mainly features Japanese dishes like Omurice and Curry Rice (JPY1,480, ~S$19.16), you’ll find hints of this Hawaiian vibe in the form of frangipani flowers as food decor.

All the mains are rice-based, with the rice moulded in the shape of the adorable doggy character.

Desserts-wise, you can try the Parfait (JPY1,000, ~S$12.95) or Bread Cookie (JPY1,580, ~S$20.46), both of which come with a serving of fruits.

Their drinks are also almost like desserts in themselves, with their Mango, Soda, or Cola coolers (JPY900, ~S$11.65) all topped with a scoop of ice-cream styled to look like Pochacco.

As expected, the decor also follows the theme, but unlike other themed cafes that can be loud and over the top, this one is styled in a more subtle manner with relaxing muted tones. Spot images of Pochacco wearing Hawaiin shirts and surfing the waves!

The booth seats are decorated with Pochacco plushies which you can snap selfies with or use as props for your foodie flatlays.

Be sure to snap some pictures by the life-sized cutout of the cute canine on a surfboard - this seems to be a favourite photo spot in the cafe.

You can also look forward to buying souvenirs like Pochacco t-shirts, bags, keychains and files, all of which are officially licensed by Sanrio.

This pop-up cafe will only be running till 30 September 2020, so hopefully it will be safe to travel again by then! While we wait, you can still enjoy the Gudetama X Bad Badtz-Maru cafe in Singapore, also a pop-up.
