Our food scene is starting to come back to life again, and with all the re-openings also comes a new cafe with a Gudetama and Bad Badtz-Maru theme - at none other than Kumoya which is now famous for its character pop-ups. Past editions included We Bare Bears, Pusheen, and Snoopy, and Sesame Street, among others.
Running from 30 July to 1 November 2020, this Sanrio pop-up cafe will come with a unique “SingapoLAH!” twist, featuring images of our local landmarks and a good dose of Singlish.
Read on to find out about the Gudetama X Bad Badtz-Maru themed pop-up cafe at Kumoya Singapore!
Kumoya sits along a row of shophouses in Bugis, and although its storefront is small, just look out for the striking entrance featuring the grumpy penguin and lazy egg - and possibly a snaking queue - and you won’t miss it.
What’s different about this Kumoya character-themed pop-up cafe is that it pays homage to our island city, and the first thing you’ll notice are all the Singlish speech bubbles hanging from the ceiling. With phases like “die liao!”, “simi sia…”, and “sian…”, you're sure to enjoy a good chuckle.
Spot the characters lounging on Gardens by the Bay’s Supertrees, taking a boat ride along the Singapore River, or sitting on a durian!
Of course, it is already expected that the food will be styled to a T. Out of the 5 mains available, you can pick from Western or Japanese dishes like the Big Badtz Buddy Breakfast ($28.90) and Relax Lah! Japanese Curry Seafood Rice ($28.90).
Other options include the Shiok Shiok Seafood Aglio Olio Pasta ($25.90) and Let’s Nua Tempura Ebi Udon Soup ($24.90).
Got a big appetite? Add on some savoury finger food ($12.90-$14.90) like Karaage Chicken with Shoyu Glaze, Curly Fries with Curry Mayo Dip, and Truffle Chicken Spam Fries.
Wash that down with one of their eye-pleasing drinks, such as the OK Lor! Lotus Caramel Frappe or Yah Lah! Mango Frappe ($13.90 each).
If you prefer something warm, go for the comforting Let’s Nua! Hot Chocolate or Simi Sia...Hot Latte ($10.90 each).
You’ll want to stick around for dessert - Kumoya is known for their tasty sweet treats and these themed ones are gonna be great for the ‘gram.
A must-get is the Lazy Chocolate Ball of Surprise ( $24.90), where you’ll have to use a mini mallet to break open a Gudetama chocolate ball and reveal fresh strawberries and mango and a cute Bad Badtz-Maru cookie. This comes with Hokkaido soft serve on the side.
Others that are suitable for sharing include the Super Nua charcoal Pancakes ($20.90) and Charcoal Waffles With Attitude? Simi Sia? ($23.90), both of which also come with fruits and soft serve.
Do note that there may be a dining time limit of 90 minutes depending on the crowd, and that there’s a minimum order of one food or drink item per person.
