Aside from not wearing shoes in their homes, Asians also don't, or rarely ever say "I love you" to their family members.

It's weird because we are totally fine with saying it to our friends and boyfriends or girlfriends, but when it comes to our parents and siblings, we cringe at the thought of saying those three words.

To celebrate Mother's Day this year, I asked our colleagues what are some things their mothers say to them to show their love instead of saying "I love you" outwardly.

Read on to find out!

#1 "Have you eaten?"

It's one of the most common questions Asian mothers ask their kids. Regardless of whether it's morning, noon or night, or when you just came home from a dinner with your friends (which your mum knows), she still asks if you have eaten.

She wants to know if are hungry because if you are, she's ready to cook and feed you till you are bursting at the seams, and that is how she shows her love.

#2 "Wake up! You are late!"

You jump up from your bed upon hearing that but when you look at the time, you are not late at all. In fact, you got woken up earlier than you usually do.

It's frustrating because even five more minutes of sleep can do wonders but your mum just wants you to have ample time to get ready without having to rush, and have enough time to eat breakfast and not go hungry.

#3 "Stop treating your home like a hotel."

How many of us are guilty of doing this? We head out in the morning and return home late at night every day with no time left for our parents who are ageing day by day.

Although it's annoying to hear your mum say that, it's because she wants the best for you! She wants you to have a proper rest at home to recharge, enjoy home cooked meals and most importantly, she wants to see and talk to you.

#4 "Don't sleep with wet hair."

Your mum nags at you to not sleep with wet hair because apparently wind or cold air will go into your head. While that has never been scientifically proven, sleeping with wet hair can cause hair breakage and fungal infection.

So the next time your mum tells you not to sleep with wet hair, just heed her advice.

#5 "Do you want me to drive you there/Do you need me to fetch you?"

Despite having to drive home alone after dropping you off or head out at night to pick you up, your mum still asks if you need her to drive you. You should feel loved and appreciate her thoughtful gesture!

#6 "I called you so many times, why didn't you pick up?"

You were probably sleeping, at work, in class or simply just busy, but your mum will keep calling you until you pick up the phone. And when you finally call her back thinking something must have happened (judging by the number of missed calls), she asks if you are going home for dinner tonight.

Even though our mothers don't really say "I love you" to us, know that she loves you wholeheartedly and just prefers to show it in other ways.

As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, so if you find it embarrassing to say those three words to your mum this Mother's Day, here are 10 ways to celebrate Mother's Day at home during this circuit breaker period.

How many of these do you resonate with as an Asian kid? If you are a mother yourself, how many of these do you say to your children? ?
