Spring cleaning before CNY is essential as it's believed that it will "sweep" away the bad things and help you usher in good luck and all things positive in the New Year.

#1 Refer to a checklist

This might sound weird but if you are someone who doesn't clean your home often, referring to a checklist will help you save time and effort.

The checklist can remind you of places that you may forget to clean and let you know what to focus on.

#2 Discard/donate things that don't spark joy

You would have definitely heard of Marie Kondo and the phrase "spark joy". Marie Kondo is a Japanese organising consultant and author who encourages people to discard of or donate things that no longer spark joy in their lives.

This helps you to get rid of useless or old things associated with unhappiness, so that you have a clutter-free space. Pick up an item and ask yourself if you need it and whether it sparks joy. If not, you know where it belongs.

This tip is especially helpful for those who are trying to lead a minimalist life too.

#3 Clean from top to bottom

You may be tempted to start cleaning whatever is nearest to you but remember to start from the ceiling down. All the dust and debris will fall onto the floor and at the end of your spring cleaning, you can then sweep or vacuum everything away.

#4 Wear a mask while cleaning

This doesn't only apply to those who are sensitive to dust. Everyone should put on a mask when cleaning as breathing in dust can cause allergies.

Imagine constantly sneezing and choking on dust while cleaning, yikes! It's going to discourage you from continuing your cleaning and take up more of your time. Simply putting on a mask before you start on your cleaning will prevent such a thing from happening.

#5 Use acrylic organisers to keep your vanity table neat

Acrylic organisers will make great additions to your vanity table and keep it neat in the long run too. As they are transparent, you can easily find the product you need, which prevents you from messing up the table.

#6 Focus on the spots you will usually forget

Items such as the ceiling fan, air-conditioner and other forgotten places such as under the bed, behind the cupboards and more, trap the most dust!

These are things and places that we don't touch or look at on a daily basis so it's easy to forget that they can be dusty too. Push your furniture out to clean those long forgotten spaces and your house will look and feel sparkly clean!
