According to E! News, 26-year-old Selena Gomez had just checked into a mental health facility to seek help for ongoing issues related to anxiety and depression.

A source close to Selena shared:

"Selena has been trying really hard recently to remain focused, and not let her health affect her. She has been actively writing new music, and moved to Orange County for a change of pace and a fresh breath of air. Ultimately, with all of her arising health issues, Selena started to feel super overwhelmed."

Selena had an emotional breakdown after being hospitalised in the last few weeks for her Lupus condition and kidney transplant. She first received medical attention at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles after her white blood cell count became increasingly low. A reduction in the number of white blood cells is also known as Leukopenia, a condition common for those with active Lupus.

Selena completed a two-week treatment programme in New York City earlier this year for anxiety and depression, a battle she revealed to have been suffering from the past 5 years.

Speaking openly to her 144 million followers in a rare Instagram Live last month, Selena shared:

"It's been 'my life' for five years straight. Every time I try to do something right, every time I try to do something good I felt like people were picking me apart."

Shortly after, Selena announced her decision to take a break from social media to "focus on the present". In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she also revealed that anxiety and depression are not things she thinks she will ever overcome.

"There won't be a day when I'm like, 'Here I am in a pretty dress— I won!' I think it's a battle I'm gonna have to face for the rest of my life, and I'm OK with that because I know that I'm choosing myself over anything else."
