Apart From Grab, You Can Try These 6 Other Apps (Esp. During Price Surge)

No more price surge! Since Uber's withdrawal, many are annoyed with the sudden increase in ride prices on Grab, epecially during peak hours and rainy days. The sudden disappearance of promo codes and revised rewards that only worsen our experience. Now, there are at least 6 other riding apps to try for the best rate, download them all!

Despite CCCS (Competition & Consumer Commission of Singapore) calling out on Grab for the foul play in the most recent Uber-Grab anti-competition saga, nothing much has changed or directly impacted us as consumers.

So girls, save some moolah and quickly download these apps:

1. Ryde
Ryde is the closest competitor to Grab now. Some of their better perks are the inclusion of ERP in the fares, no cancellation fees/penalty if you decided to cancel rides. They also have options such as RydePET and RydeSEND (for picking up/ sending  items straight from the door step). Ryde has a relatively high number of drivers for fast response as compared to other apps. A must download for frequent riders!

2. Tada
This app is founded by Koreans and its representative, Mr Woo said in an interview with Channel NewsAsia, "We don't charge drivers any commission, so there's room for lower prices. That's how we share the benefits."

Tada charges are based on fixed-fare rate for point-to-point rides.
*A 3.4% transaction fee will be charged for credit card payments.

3. Kardi
Officially launched on 1 August 2018, they have fixed up the bugs after gathering more data via the soft launch in June 2018. The firm promises to offer riders with more promo codes, freebies, vouchers, free rides and more rewards. The old app 'Jugnoo' has teamed up with Kardi to provide better customer service and backend support.

Jugnoo chief executive, Samar Singla, said, "We want to support the underdogs... We are giving the small guys the same tools as the bigger players like Uber and Grab, so they can compete without worrying about technology."

Kardi also has a "Paid Fast, Paid Well" policy to its drivers. Let's hope in the long run, they keep to their "cheapest ride" agenda.

4. Filo Ride
This Singapore-based company is one of the lowest fixed prices per ride. Cancellation fees are charged at $2 per cancellation though. As consumers, this is not the most enticing but in the long run, we may see the goodness of such implementation. On the flip side, you don't get drivers that often (maybe because it's cheaper?) so the wait can be a potentially long one.

5. Urge
Urge is another app launched in August 2018. Due to its relatively new entry, they have a smaller pool of drivers. They aim to differentiate itself by providing more than private hire services. They also provide food delivery, logistics and courier services. Urge also takes in full-time drivers as salaried employees. So in the long run, you can surely find a stable pool of Urge drivers on the road. Will you show them your support?

"There is no (price) surge for high-demand times, but we will have a minimal peak-hour surcharge," said the chief operating officer Kelvin Ho.

6. G0-Jek
The latest entry into the private hire driving app market. In fact, this Indonesian firm has already roped in 6 car rental firms to sign on private-hire drivers and supply vehicles to potential drivers. Go-Jek is said to also offer grocery and medicine deliveries, cleaning and massage services. We'll wait for its official launch and see~

What an opportune time for Go-Jek, the CCCS non-exclusivity clause for private-hire players means that Go-Jek is free to contact the estimated 70,000 drivers currently on Grab!
