Essential Hair, Skincare & Makeup Tips We Picked Up From Beauty Experts At Glow Up Saturdays Workshops
We recently partnered with Westgate to launch Glow Up Saturdays, a series of beauty workshops where attendees tried new products by Dreame, Clarins, and LANEIGE, picked up hair and skincare tips, and even went home with goodie bags!
Missed the workshops? Here’s a recap of the best tips and tricks by three beauty experts:
#1 Dreame: How To Style Your Hair Quickly Without Heat Damage
They say you’re only as good as your tools, and it’s particularly true when it comes to hair styling skills. At this workshop, Hairstylist Ying Cui (@yyingcui/@aastralbeauty) demonstrated how to create salon-worthy hair looks at home using Dreame’s new hairstyling tools.
She shared that when styling your hair with heat, it’s important to apply multiple layers of haircare. Unlike traditional hair tools, Dreame’s next-gen tools provide two to three layers of care while you style. That means you need to add just one more layer like the K18 HeatBounce conditioning heat protectant ($48). It detangles, softens, and creates a barrier against heat - all without weighing down your locks.

When blow-drying your hair with the Miracle Pro (Now $499, U.P. $549), it’s best to use a lower temperature when blow-drying the scalp, but Miracle Pro takes care of that for you as it auto-adjusts the temperature and airflow according to the distance from your scalp.
If you have a dry scalp and damaged hair, switch to Essence Mode where the dryer will release a fine mist that’s infused with hair-loving ingredients like white truffle extract and micro-keratin. After that, switch on the Dual Red Light to stimulate your hair follicles and boost scalp circulation for a stronger scalp.

If you like that y2k-style straight hair aesthetic, you need Dreame’s Aero Straight (Now $399, U.P. $499). Instead of heated blades, this hair straightener uses high-velocity, temperature-controlled airflow to dry and straighten hair at the same time, while protecting its natural shine and strength.

Ying Cui recommends styling with damp hair for the most long lasting results. The hair is more malleable when wet, and can be more easily shaped with heat before drying and cooling to lock the style in. Simply place a section of hair between the arms and slide it down to the hair ends. The precise jet of air dries hair with a straight, polished and shiny look.

#2 Clarins: The Best Way To Apply Skincare Products For Maximum Results
A common way to apply skincare is to dot or drip it directly on the face and rub it in. That works too, but Skincare expert Charmaine Khoo shared a far superior technique that will make the most of your skincare products and deliver even better results.

Step 1: Pump the Clarins Double Serum Light Texture on your hand and gently bring both palms together, warming the product for one to two seconds. This helps activate the ingredients and bring the serum to skin temperature so it sinks into the skin more easily.
Step 2: Lightly pat the serum onto your skin with the full palm of your hand. Then, repeat the process using a little more pressure. Try pressing your arm slightly and increase your strength until a subtle redness appears - that’s now much pressure you should apply for the second application. This ensures even distribution, stimulates circulation, and avoids irritating sensitive skin.

This method can be used on most skincare products including creams, oils, and lotions.
Fun fact: The skin on the hands is much thicker than that on the face, which is why the serum will not absorb into the palms when you’re warming it up. Still, avoid rubbing your hands vigorously!
This skincare application technique ensures you maximise the benefits of the Double Serum Light Texture (from $145), a new addition to Clarins’ beloved Double Serum family that boasts a fluid, silky and weightless formula with the exact same efficacy as the original.
Experience this new serum at Clarins, located at Westgate #01-26, open from 10.30am to 9.30pm.
#3 LANEIGE: How To Get Glass Skin Overnight & The Art Of Applying Cushion Foundation
Want that flawless no-makeup makeup look? The process starts not with makeup, but skincare! Makeup Artist Terence Ng explained the importance of Sleeping Masks for maintaining hydration overnight and prepping the skin. During sleep, the skin naturally loses moisture, especially between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., even without air-conditioning. LANEIGE’s Sleeping Masks combat this by gradually absorbing into the skin, layer by layer, throughout the night with Rescue Wrap Technology. That explains why you’ll wake up with skin that looks like you just applied moisturiser! This plump and supple skin is the perfect foundation for makeup that appears like bare skin.
The newly reformulated Water Sleeping Mask ($20/$51) is even more hydrating than ever, using three types of hyaluronic acids to lock in moisture throughout the night. Meanwhile, the new Cica Sleeping Mask ($20/$52) soothes sensitive or stressed skin with a trio of cica compounds.

For a smooth and longer-lasting base, apply the Skin Veil Base EX - SPF 28 PA++ ($50.40) before your foundation. This tone-correcting base neutralises sallowness and almost doubles as a highlighter to contour the face. To get a more even application, dispense the product on the back of the hand, and use a makeup brush to apply a light layer on the skin. Concentrate on the centre of the face, bridge of the nose, chin, cupid’s bow and forehead. After that, blend it out lightly to the rest of the face. Terence shared that this creates a more sculpted, three-dimensional look.
He also advised to apply it according to your unique facial features to create a balanced look. For instance, those with a high forehead may avoid applying this tone up cream heavily on the entire forehead but just the lower part of it, and the ones blessed with high cheekbones can apply it over the apples of the cheeks so as to not emphasise dark eye circles or the nasolabial folds.

Once the primer is complete, it’s time for the foundation! Terence demonstrated the best cushion foundation application using the new NEO Cushion Mewy SPF 42 PA++ ($74). A little goes a long way, so lightly press the cushion sponge on the foundation once to apply on the entire face. Starting from the centre of the face, gently pat the foundation onto the skin. As the sponge has an ultra-smooth surface, you can also glide it on the skin to blend it in. For tricker areas like under the eyes and the sides of the nose and lips, use the broader side that’s shaped to fit snugly around these areas.
