The story continues right after Season 1, with Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) figuring out what their new relationship means. Joanne, a podcaster who doesn’t follow any religion, first met Noah, a rabbi with his own unconventional ways, in the first season. By the finale, Joanne admitted she wasn’t ready to convert, while Noah stepped into his new role as head rabbi. Still, the two ended the season with a kiss, leaving fans curious about whether their love can last.

In the new season, Joanne faces questions about whether she plans to convert to Judaism. She responds with, “We’re going to do the interfaith thing,” but her friends just sit in silence. Later in the trailer, Noah looks at her and asks, “Are we doomed?”

This season also brings in some familiar faces. Leighton Meester plays Joanne’s old middle school rival, a fun nod to real life since she’s married to Adam Brody and once starred on Gossip Girl, where Kristen Bell served as the narrator. Seth Rogen delivers a brief but hilarious cameo, while Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky, Arian Moayed, and Kate Berlant also step into guest roles.

Netflix also shared the official synopsis: “First comes love, then comes life. The last time we saw agnostic podcast host Joanne (Bell) and unconventional (hot) rabbi Noah (Brody), their unmatched chemistry surprised everyone in their lives, including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe), his brother Sasha (Timothy Simons) and sister-in-law Esther (Jackie Tohn), and even themselves. Their spark proved stronger than all of the obstacles trying to keep them apart. Now, they’re back and fully committed to merging their lives — and loved ones — together. But their differences still exist and can’t be ignored. The challenge now is not just falling in love against all odds, but staying together in spite of them.”
