Chef’s Tavern: New Restaurant In Tanjong Pagar Serves Up European-Japanese Cuisine Including Teishoku Sets From $28++
Have a group chat that's always asking where to dine at next? Chef's Tavern along Craig Road is the kind of place to put forward. This European-Japanese restaurant offers refined fusion dishes, great-value weekday lunch sets, and fun cocktails.
It's the latest venture by Chef Stephan Zoisl, the mastermind behind the 'Western Omakase' concept at Chef's Table, who is bringing fine dining and Michelin-starred expertise to a more laid-back dining experience - the perfect setting for catch-ups with your besties.

European-Japanese Fusion Food
The menu at Chef's Tavern is as fresh and inventive as you'd expect, yet still has a familiar and comforting touch. It features must-haves from Chef Stephan's established repertoire, thoughtfully tweaked signatures, and all-new dishes.
If you're a fusion food skeptic, one bite of the Cold Kombu Angel Hair Pasta ($22) will change your mind. This beautifully crafted pasta is a cold dish, sans the juicy Argentinian prawns. Everything is coated in a sauce made from tom kha coconut and lobster bisque, then topped with crispy artichoke chips, kombu, chives, lemongrass and chilli. It's a mix that works so well - umami-packed and balanced but not overwhelming on the taste buds.

Another highlight is the Alaskan Black Cod ($34). The fish is super buttery and moist, and sits in a rich sauce with a scrumptious blend of Madras Curry spice, celery root, beurre blanc, passionfruit gel, trout roe and tarragon oil.

There are also appetisers good for sharing like the Anchovy Puff Pastry ($12) with rich ricotta and briny anchovies on top of a delicate, flaky pastry.

For something light and refreshing, go for the Hamachi Sashimi ($18) paired with lightly pickled vegetables and grapes compressed in white wine, or the Hokkaido Scallop Crudo ($19) with mint and shiso.
Affordable Lunch Sets
Chef Stephan is known for his innovative 'Western Omakase' experience, and he's brings this concept to Chef's Tavern with the Tavern Style Teishoku Set. It's a bougie take on the traditional Japanese meal at an accessible price point, from $28++ to $48++ per person.
Each set comes with a protein along with a choice of sourdough or Japanese rice, complete with crunchy lotus root chips, the soup of the day, salad, and fruit.

Proteins include Pork Tenderloin, Wagyu Flank Steak, the Alaskan Black Cod we're mega fans of, as well as vegetarian options like Pumpkin Risotto.
It's a perfect choice when you're craving a nourishing and satisfying meal with varied and perfectly complementary flavours and textures.

These sets are served from Monday to Saturday, 12 to 2.30pm.
Desserts
If you're wondering, "should we get dessert?", just go for it. You'll be glad you did; Chef's Tavern does it right.
The gorgeous White Peach Mousse ($14) is an uplifting treat featuring smooth peach mousse layered with a white peach compote, oolong tea ice cream, and a buttery sable cookie. It's then decorated with a ring of marinated berries in berry gel.
Chocolate lovers will be thoroughly satiated with the Dark Chocolate Gateau ($16). This cake has four layers comprising chocolate feuilletine, dark chocolate mousse, milk chocolate mousse, and dark chocolate glaze. It's indulgent on its own and gets a bright, tangy twist when paired with the yuzu sorbet and yuzu gel.

Japanese-Inspired Cocktails
Two new house-special cocktails have also joined the menu, and both go seamlessly with the food.
First up is the more easy-to-drink Umami Drift ($24). Made with a gin base infused with fat-washed miso butter, it has a smooth, savoury taste with an aftertaste of ginger and citrus.
The more adventurous can try the Wasabi Whip ($24). It has wasabi oil-infused vodka mixed with cointreau, soya sauce, citrus, and ginger beer. The first sip is sharp and bold, but gradually mellows into clean and refreshing.
