Sony dropped the first look at the upcoming film on 22 April, after giving fans an early peek at CinemaCon last month. The horror flick will hit cinemas on 18 July, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson behind the camera as director.
This next chapter brings in a fresh cast—Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, and Chase Sui Wonder, while also reuniting OG stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. from the original 1997 movie and its 1998 sequel.

This time, the story follows five friends who swear to keep a tragic car accident a secret. But the secret doesn’t stay hidden for long, and things quickly take a dark turn. They end up crossing paths with survivors from the Southport Massacre, and it’s clear the past isn’t staying buried.

“This isn’t the first time there’s been violence like this in Southport,” says Prinze in the trailer. Hewitt also appears later in the clip, and delivers a line that says it all: “I just have one question,” she says. “What did you do last summer?”

The film is the fourth in the franchise and continues right after the 1998 sequel. That creepy hook-handed killer? Still out there. Still not playing games.
