Placed right at the B1 foyer of the National Gallery's City Hall Wing, Through The Looking Glass questions the complex nature of human perception with its multisensory elements. Inspired by the artist's experiences as a visually impaired individual, this installation encourages visitors to walk through pillars of 'light' and contribute sticky-note ideas of what it means to see and be seen.

They say the freshest (A.K.A. best) items at grocery stores are stored above eye level — it seems artworks may be following suit. Projected onto the round ceiling of the Rotunda Library & Archive on level 3, at the Supreme Court Wing, this display is not only rather mesmerising, but also perfectly shaped for a Telegram bubble to your fave group chats.

Aiming to blend the personal experiences of Singaporeans with collective memory, Kālacakra (a clock for progress) draws upon artworks from National Gallery Singapore's archives to create a whole new, unique collage.

Head to the Padang Atrium Corridor at Supreme Court Wing, Level 1, where you'll find this interactive display made up of collaged loose leaf papers. These include brightly coloured post-its, old photographs, receipts, handwritten notes and book pages.

Padang

Travelling Through the Tropical Rainforest

Travelling Through the Tropical Rainforest is a total scene-stealer, blending the wild allure of nature with the sleek lines of city life. This installation, located at the Padang, consists of six massive sculptures resembling tropical palms, but instead of lush greenery, they’re crafted from manmade materials. The result? A striking contrast against Singapore’s modern skyline that feels equal parts futuristic and poetic.

By blowing up the details we’d normally miss, they invite us to slow down and rethink how nature thrives (or struggles) in our concrete jungle. Also, the perfect eco-glam location for your 'gram.

Think of it as witnessing a quiet yet powerful conversation with your own feelings, brought to life through the artist’s unique pursuit of expression!

A Little Bead of Work

What are those beams of light coming from the Outdoor Lawn of The Arts House? Why, glow-in-the-dark beads! To be precise, pans filled with the type of beads that are commonly seen on alphabet bracelets (hello again, Eras tour memories).

These playful stations invite visitors to explore themes of visibility, identity, and connection by handling and playing with the beads, 'charging' them up with the light sources provided and observing how they illuminate the darkness. PSA: those who visit on Fridays to Sundays (6pm – 10pm) can also join the guided experience for a deeper dive into the installation.
