First Look At Gardens By The Bay's New Light-Up Sakura Floral Display
Holidaying in Japan during cherry blossom season is one activity many of us have on our travel checklists — but if you simply can't step away for a trip, here's a fun alternative you can try without leaving the country! Gardens by the Bay's annual Sakura floral display is back for its ninth edition, featuring a miniature version of Kyoto's iconic Kinkakuji Temple and a light-up experience to boot.

Visitors can also expect to see more than 40 cherry blossom varieties and over a whopping 140 individual trees! As evening falls, these floral displays are illuminated in dazzling shades to recreate the yozakura (night sakura) landscape from Japan.

As the most prominent display, this recreation of Kinkakuji Temple stands proud in the centre of the flower viewing area. Step into the golden structure and pretend you're within the actual UNESCO World Heritage site, or pose at the entrance for some stunning pictures.

You can also immerse yourself in Kyoto's old-world charm with smaller floral displays, including traditional thatched houses and an engawa (a veranda found in traditional homes) complete with wind chimes. Those who enjoy garden settings can also look out for bamboo water fountains, a tea set area, and a few red torii gates.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the strings of paper lanterns, with each one displaying a traditional art piece on its facade. When lit up, they look positively enchanting against the backdrop of the cherry blossoms!

That's not all — prepare yourselves (and your cameras) for some shots of the light projections that only appear when the sun goes down. We also spotted a path that transforms into a stream of koi fish, which actually 'swim' up and down the way.
