Squid Game, which premiered in September 2021, has become one of Netflix's most-watched series globally. In just 28 days after its release, the show accumulated over 1.65 billion viewing hours and garnered more than 142 million viewers. Achieving the top spot on the Netflix Top 10 list in 94 countries worldwide, it can be considered a phenomenal masterpiece. The series captivates audiences with its thrilling pace, vividly intense aesthetics of violence, and its exploration of societal satire and the boundaries of human nature through the lens of money and brutal games. It has solidified its status as an iconic Korean drama in recent years.

In 2022, the producers of Squid Game confirmed the production of its second season. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk penned an open letter to express gratitude to the fans and dropped some hints about the plot. Besides thanking the audience, he subtly mentioned that the returnees would include Lee Jung-jae as the male protagonist Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as the game master, and Gong Yoo as the salesman/ man in suit.

In addition to the three important roles mentioned above, new cast were also announced last year, including Kang Ha-neul and Park Sung-hoon, who became popular in The Glory. Im Si-wan, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, and Yang Dong-geun are also joining the cast.

In the latest stills unveiled, Lee Byung-hun takes on the role of the game leader once again, kicking off a fresh set of challenges. Lee Jung-jae's character Gi-hun seems to have undergone a transformation, bidding farewell with the pink hair. Apart from reuniting with the crew in their distinctive red game uniforms, they encounter the mysterious salesman, once more. The snapshots also reveal Park Gyu-young portraying a seemingly poor woman who receives an invitation to the game.
