Everyone awws at those viral videos of cute kitties disrupting their hoomans who work from home, but for cat lovers who aren't cat parents (yet), the fawning comes with real pangs of envy too.

The newly opened Meownistry of Meow co-working space at Bugis taps into that very demographic! This is the place to be if you want to experience working with cats without actually being responsible for taking care of said cats.

Combining the concept of a cat cafe, cat foster home and co-working space, Meownistry of Meow houses 12 rescued, abandoned or stray cats in their 2-storey office area.

Meownistry of Meow Co-Working Space Rooms & Facilities

Most of the cats live in the first level where there are four seating areas.

The room by the windows is the prime spot for working and getting distracted by cats at the same time. There's plenty of natural light and comfortable chairs and tables for productive work, but right by are cat playing areas where you'll see cats running and jumping around occasionally.

Across the that traditional seating area is a cosy set-up with floor chairs and low tables.

If you need a break from work, the cats are right there to help you destress. While some of them were shy and not up for petting, almost all of them were eager for playtime. A wide range of cat toys are provided; I observed that the cats' favourites were the feathered toys.

On the second floor are more seating areas, including a meeting room, two energetic kittens and caged cats that are undergoing or recovering from treatments.

Look out for the cats' feeding time at 11.30am where they'll gather at a feeding area with cut-out holes for each cat. It's an adorable affair that was designed with aesthetics in mind, but it was reassuring that the staff didn't force the cats to perform for the 'gram and let them dine as they pleased.

Speaking of cat welfare, Meownistry of Meow limits the number of cats in the co-working space and prioritises space for cats to roam over customers' seating areas. They also have high hygiene standards, cleaning the office twice daily and offering visitors foot covers. Visitors are also not allowed to carry the cats, disturb sleeping cats or force them to do anything. Inconsiderate souls who break these rules will be fined $200.

My experience at a cat cafe was a little icky, to say the least, where loud customers were overstimulating the poor, jaded cats. The cats at this co-working space had a lot more life and their own individual personalities which is a good sign they're well looked after.

Back to the facilities! Each floor has a toilet and a pantry. The first floor pantry is equipped with a fridge, two microwaves (one for halal food), a drink machine, sink and cutlery. There's also a free-flow of hot and cold drinks like coffee, milo and tea. If you're pressed for time, you could walk a few steps outside, grab a ready-to-eat meal from 7-Eleven and pop it into the microwave for a quick bite.

Feel like abandoning work altogether? Head to the private gaming area and knock yourself out with Nintendo Switch games. This cosy nook fits two to four people.

There's also a karaoke and gaming room upstairs that fits 10 people. This is a strictly no-cat area as the loud KTV music would be harmful and stressful for the cats.

Craving more interaction with the cats? You can always resort to bribery! Meownistry of Meow has cat treats you can purchase so you can feed the cats - a sure-fire way to get the kitties' attention.

The treats will be sold in a limited quantity to ensure the cats don't overindulge on the unhealthy food. Another safety rule this co-working space has is that visitors can only feed the cats food that's provided there, so don't bring cat food along!

All this cat goodness might be gearing you up to bring one home... and you can! These cats are up for adoption and those who find a forever home will be replaced by other rescued cats.

But realistically speaking, not all cat lovers are prepared for the huge responsibility of caring for one. If you're on that boat, why not bring home cat-themed merchandise instead? There are plenty on sale at Meownistry of Meow including items by local artisans.
