Crazy cat lady who loves afternoon tea, kawaii Japanese fashion, and all things Sanrio.

As much as we’d like to present ourselves as, ahem, mature, grown adults, I think I speak for many others when I say that any mention of the human phallus often gets us giggling. Relying on johnson-related jokes might admittedly be seen as a “cheap” way of scoring humour points, but there must be a reason why they are ever-prevalent in pop culture - be it movies, art, or memes.

In any case, if you’re down to dick around in town for a bit, you’ll want to check out the latest head-turning art exhibition in Singapore: Chin-Chin, a kukubird-themed pop-up that’ll only be around for a little while longer.

If you’re familiar with Japanese, erm, “culture”, you might already know that “chin chin” refers to the male genitalia - and that’s exactly what this unconventional art exhibition is all about.

Conceptualised in collaboration with Very Small Exhibition, Chin-Chin showcases the no-holds-barred pieces by Prague-based Japanese female artist, Yui Ozaki, and is housed in 7879 Gallery and Clayworks at Little India.

You’re sure to spot the Chin-Chin exhibition from afar, as a giant furry multi-coloured dong installation is casually standing proud near the entrance, in plain view of passers-by. Step in and it’s literally d*ck paradise, with tons of phalluses in different textures for you to admire.

We’re talking a ton of felt pee-pees hanging from the ceiling, bearing fun patterns like clouds, cow prints, and hearts, along with framed pieces of wang-themed drawings and paintings.

Not to go overboard with the puns, but a couple of colourful 3D kukubird sculptures have also been unabashedly erected on the walls.

Don’t be shy with photo-taking! You are more than welcome to snap photos with the dong-themed artwork. Size queens can jump on the chance of hopping onto one of the giant p*nises around the studio for a bold photo op.

Like what you see and yearn to take home a piece for yourself? D*ck-themed paraphernalia is up for sale, with items such as cute lil’ pin badges, art prints, and postcards. There are also cheeky “ice poop” prints, with poop drawn to look like soft serve ice cream.

This exhibition isn’t just for shits and giggles though. All jokes aside, the artist hopes to use her art to explore and address themes of sexuality, gender, and related stereotypes that are common across the world - be it Japan, the Czech Republic, or Singapore.
