What's Going On With Fan Bing Bing Amidst Tax Evasion Investigation

It all started from May 29, when Chinese host Cui Yong Yuan, posted pictures of Fan Bing Bing's acting contract and accused her of tax evasion intentions on social media.

After the scandal blew up, there was a phone call from Fan to Cui, as reported, "She told me I had wronged her, and that because of what I said, she is currently getting investigated,"

He added, "She said she felt horrible about the incident, and cried really badly."

This alleged scandal is regarding her contract for the upcoming movie, Cell Phone 2.

According to Radiichina,

"This caused stock prices for some of China's biggest film studios to tumble, as investors seemingly feared a wide-ranging investigation and the potential for more scandals to be exposed."

The first contract that Cui posted, showed the actress being paid RMB $10 million, which is about SGD $2 million.

The second contract that Cui posted showed a sum of RMB $50 million, which is about SGD $10 million being awarded to Fan for the same movie.

The intention behind these 2 different contracts were insinuated by Cui as an act of possible tax evasion. Of course, as dubious as this scandal is, there is no judgement placed by China courts yet.

Fan's management immediately refuted the accusations. Oddly, Cui also retracted his statement the following week. It raises even more eyebrows.

For more than 2 months now, Fan's social media has been quiet. Her last post was dated, 23 May.

We know Fan Bing Bing and her brother, Fan Cheng Cheng are currently under house arrest, which means they are detained for investigation but respectfully in the comfort of their house. Their movements are however, restricted with 24 hours residential surveillance.
