We still remember the day, in July 2018 when people across the nation were drowning in despair after hearing the news about the Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre. The actress shared the news of her being diagnosed with high-grade metastatic cancer on her social media. While she could have shut herself from the outside world, Sonali took a brave move and chose the internet power to share her experiences and journey of treatment with the world.
She became an example of spreading positive messages about life, courage and strength. We saw it all, from her moving to New York for treatment to chopping her hair off and missing her family on special occasions & festivals. The power lady still did not forget to enjoy her life at the fullest while she was seen hanging out with her BFF's and gracing celebratory events like Priyanka Chopra's bridal shower.
Each day came as a new set of challenge for her and she made sure to succeed in all. She kept sharing her honest thoughts and feelings throughout this time through posts on Instagram and inspiring captions. We must say, in spite of seeing her world falling apart, she chose to keep a smile on her face and fight all the difficulties that came.
After her battle of cancer for over six months, Sonali returned to her home, Mumbai in December to celebrate and welcome a new year and her birthday with family and friends. And now, the actress is finally back at work. She took to Instagram and shared a picture & video of herself from her first day at the shoot. She expressed how grateful she is to be back on sets after a long break. She described the feeling as "surreal" and felt "an additional sense of purpose and meaning" to her life again.
For Sonali, the feeling of being "back in action" is so emotional to see and her post too described her emotions perfectly. She wrote "Being back on a set after a major sabbatical – one that has been testing in many ways on so many levels – is a surreal feeling. After all this, I sort of feel an additional sense of purpose and meaning and I'm so grateful to be back in action. I don’t think words would do justice to how beautiful it feels to be back at work...to face the camera again and portray the range of emotions required. Given that my emotions have been running high for the last couple of months, it feels good to give into the emotions that the job requires. It's just the kind of day that helps me".
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, which is today she also shared her thoughts on what the day means to her. Sonali is empowering thousands of people who loose hope and we are extremely proud of her for motivating people. She shared a black and white picture of herself that read as "There's more to cancer than being emotional or weak or even being called a fighter or a survivor. It requires you to study it, find out what works for you and to be diligent about your treatment. It requires days of strongly believing in oneself, of knowing that tomorrow will be better than today. It is not a fight against negative thoughts. It's taking a stand to not give in, no matter what. Most importantly, it is about living every day, and not just surviving."
Sonali is undoubtedly inspiring all cancer patients and continues to be their ray of hope and positivity. We are so thankful to her for restoring our faith in life. We are so glad that she is back at work after all the struggles!
