India celebrated the 70th Republic day in the best way possible. People gathered in crowds from our country and abroad to witness the very famous Republic Day parade in the morning. Like usual the function began with the singing of National Anthem after which our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi received the chief guest for the function at the main stage. President Ram Nath Kovind and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa graced the event with their presence which was followed by 21-gun salute, as per the traditions.

But the centre of attraction at this year's Republic Day celebrations was the women parade. Female officers led the contingents of the Navy, the Army services and the Corps of Signals.  The women of our nation created history with their inclusion in the combat role in the Indian defence forces. An all-women contingent of Assam Rifles marched on Rajpath for the first time ever which was led by Major Khushboo Kanwar.

Assam Rifles have come a long way since the year 2012 when they first allowed women to join the paramilitary force. Highlighting the same, Major General Rajpal Punia, Chief of Staff said, " This Republic Day parade will be an amazing display of 'Nari Shakti', as many contingents will be led by women, besides an all-women contingent of Assam Rifles."

Talking about the celebrations furthermore, Bollywood celebrities also took part in the festivities of the Republic Day. Various stars shared pictures with the national tiranga and painted the town is all shades of proud & respect!
