I Tried A New Antioxidant Scalp Repair Treatment To Tackle My Oily Scalp Issues At The Root
Changing my shampoo countless times, slathering on scalp masks, and even lying on the sofa upside down to improve blood circulation - I’ve tried just about everything in attempts to improve the condition of my hair over the years. But despite my best efforts, my oily scalp and hair thinning issues never seem to budge.
My waist-length hair is intrinsically tied to my sense of self-identity, and having my crowning glory in a less than stellar state is a confidence breaker. Nothing feels worse than heading out freshly showered and made up, only to have my hair get visibly greasy again in mere hours, and this is only made worse by Singapore’s humid weather.
Desperate for a lasting solution, I visited PHS HAIRSCIENCE, a hair and scalp care specialist in Singapore, and tried out their brand new H2 Advance Scalp Repair Treatment, which focuses on antioxidants to rejuvenate the scalp. Here’s our review.

PHS HAIRSCIENCE has 4 outlets for hair and scalp treatments in Singapore, with 3 conveniently located in town, as well as one in Bedok. I visited the Wheelock Place branch in Orchard for my H2 Advance Scalp Repair Treatment. I was first shown to a consultation room, where I filled in a questionnaire regarding my concerns and lifestyle habits. Then, a friendly consultant used a high-tech scalp scanner so she could inspect the condition of my scalp up close.

Turns out, the root of the problem is the fact that I actually have a sensitive scalp, which in turn produces excess sebum to protect itself from irritation and external damage - hence the oiliness I’ve been putting up with on a daily basis. This results in hair follicles clogged with buildup, which is something that contributes to hair fall and progressively thinner hair strands that are limp and weak.

While the scan revealed that the hair on my crown - where my parting is - is thinning slightly due to its exposure to environmental aggressors like heat and pollution, the good news is that the rest of my hair is generally healthy, with more than one strand growing from most follicles. I was then recommended the antioxidant-rich Sensitive Scalp H2 Advance Scalp Repair Treatment in order to rebalance and strengthen my scalp for healthier hair growth.
Just a note, there are 6 variants of the H2 Advance Scalp Repair Treatment, with the others being Dandruff Clear, Dry Scalp, Oily & Acne Prone Scalp, Combination Scalp, and Anti-Ageing. There’s truly one for every scalp type, and what is recommended for you will be based on your unique needs.

I was then ushered to a cushy armchair and given a relaxing shoulder massage, before being brought to the hair washing station for a double cleanse. A high pressure water jet was also used to stimulate and clean my hair follicles. This was mildly uncomfortable due to the strength of the jet spray, but I felt satisfied knowing that my scalp was being given such a thorough cleanse.

The star of the H2 Advance Scalp Repair Treatment? PHS HAIRSCIENCE’s special Hydrogen Care machine. This handy device helps administer various steps of the scalp treatment while delivering hydrogen to the deeper layers of the scalp, effectively soothing and hydrating it, improving blood circulation, and providing antioxidant effects.

For starters, a Hydro Peel was used to exfoliate my scalp and clear it of any dead skin or excess buildup. This was extremely comfortable and non-abrasive - in contrast to store-bought scalp scrubs which can damage the scalp’s epidermis.
This was followed by a soothing scalp mask, which had a cold, tingly sensation that was super refreshing. I was then given a scalp massage, before an infrared machine was extended over me to aid in optimum absorption of the mask’s nutrients.

After the mask was washed off, a cold Hydrogen High Pressure Spray was applied all over my scalp. This comfortable, gentle spray helps fight off free radicals and repair the scalp from oxidative damage, while strengthening it right from its deeper layers.

Next, a bottle of H2 ampoule serum attached to the Hydrogen Infusion Jet Spray was applied. This serum is a highly concentrated botanical stem cell formula that you cannot get via off-the-counter purchases, and the one picked for me came with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties to help in the cellular repair of my sensitive and weak scalp.
Then, a Galvanic current - a form of electrotherapy - was used to further stimulate my hair follicles and help the ampoule penetrate into the layers of my scalp more deeply. Don’t worry, despite how intimidating this sounds, it’s completely pain-free.

Finally, a sensitive scalp serum was applied, before I got a blowout that made me feel like a movie star. During which, I was taught how to change my parting, such that the areas of my crown that were previously constantly exposed to external damage would be given a chance to “rest” and rejuvenate over time.

Rest assured that there will be no hard-selling involved, although you are strongly encouraged to use the range recommended for your scalp type for best results!

Based on feeling alone, my hair became a lot lighter and bouncier immediately after the treatment, especially at the roots - this was in contrast to how it’s normally stringy-looking and weighed down from excess sebum secretion. And the “before” and “after” photos certainly confirmed how effective the treatment was, with my follicles all clear of residue.

In the following week, I also noticed how my scalp felt a lot less prone to oiliness and itchiness despite how hot and humid the weather was.
