Every year, the nation would gather on 9 August to celebrate Singapore's birthday. This year, we turn 53! Doesn't it just feel like yesterday when we were celebrating #SG50? Time really flies.

This year's theme is... We Are Singapore. Yeah, we totally get you... what a theme. But that's not the point. We are just really happy to see our local bands finally receiving more recognition! Dreams do come true.

No, we're not just talking about The Sam Willows. We know they are awesome but there's so much more to our local music scene than them! Here's who's gracing our stage  (in no particular order) for NDP this year:

 1. Charlie Lim

While he's known for his indie, folk-rock and soulful music, who would have guessed that Charlie would also be the chosen one to sing our theme song for this year? of course! When we first heard the news a few months back, we can't help but JUMP with excitement!

In case you're not too familiar with Charlie Lim, he's basically one of the most popular artists in the Singapore indie music scene~ He's performed many live gigs and festivals in Singapore as well as many key music festivals across the region!

If you need a testament of his skills, all you need to know is that he performed two sold-out shows at the Mosaic Music Festival- the first Singaporean to do so! He also premiered his album TIME/SPACE at Singapore's most prestigious music venue @ the 1,600-seat Esplanade Concert Hall. #wow #respect #imafan

Check out this year's theme song if you haven't! #awesome

 2. M1LDLIFE

Previously known as Take Two, the 4-piece band adopted the name M1LDL1FE after one of their founding members Johnathan Lim left the band. Take Two M1LDL1FE has come a long way from their university days as a cover band but they've always had a piece of our hearts thanks to their relatable music.

One of our favourites has got to be 'Ariel', a song inspired by a brief 'love at first sight' encounter during a MRT ride. Listen to it here!

 3. The Lion City Boy

If you don't know who he is, just remember that he literally rapped our Singapore pledge in this year's theme song. How cool is that, man?

Don't be mistaken, though. This guy is one to look out for. An Indian & Eurasian by ethnicity, Kevin Lester aka The Lion City Boy shares a Singaporean story in music on a global scale. BMBX, a recording label owned by The Black Eyed Peas approves of his skills! Don't play play.

 4. MICapella

As you might have guessed from their name, MICAPELLA is an acapella group! Though they are best known in the local mandopop scene for their mandarin covers/mash-up, they perform English songs as well too! #bilingualftw #thankgoodnesswearebilingual

They first got the world's attention on China's The Sing Off, going home in second place. They haven't stopped since then.

In 2017, they took part in the inaugural Moscow Spring A Cappella Festival and emerged FIRST! More than 167 choirs and vocalist groups from around the world competed in this competition~ As the only Asian group participating at this festival, they did all of us (especially Singapore) proud! *heart eyes*

This year, MICapella will be performing a medley of national day songs and serenade us with their powerful vocals. Don't miss it!
