It’s a love-it-or-hate-it affair when it comes to durian, Singapore’s national fruit. But even if you’ve acquired the taste for the thorny fruit, here’s something that might still raise your eyebrows: Durian facial masks.
That’s right ladies. After being made into various desserts and having its likeness turned into designs for things like Airpods cases and squishy cushions, the durian has also sneaked its way into our skincare products.

As someone who detests durian, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to put it on their face. But hey, as the saying goes, “pain is beauty, and beauty is pain”.
Turns out, durian is rich in antioxidants, as well as Vitamins B and C. This gives it the ability to help brighten skin and prevent wrinkles.

Currently, the most talked-about durian mask is the Yellow Market Durian Sheet Mask from K-beauty brand, A’PIEU, which you can get from Singapore-based skincare store Glamology at $4.20 per piece.
Another popular option is the Turian King Durian Sheet Mask from Maura, available on Shopee at $40 for a packet of 5 ($8 per piece).

Apart from brightening and moisturising, Maura claims that their durian masks can also help manage acne and oily skin.
Reviewers for both types of masks have said that while these don’t exactly smell the most fragrant, they’re not as pungent as the actual fruit. Apparently, they do work in making the skin feel smoother and more hydrated, so take the plunge if you’re daring enough!
