Here are eight tips to renovate your house and make your life easier!

#1 USB sockets

Almost everyone has a smartphone so why not upgrade some of your power sockets into USB sockets? This way, you don't have to bring a "head" around with you and just require a wire. We suggest to install these USB sockets near areas where you will nua in, such as your bedside or next to your sofa.

#2 Use tile grout

Always use tile grout to fill the spaces between different tiles as it will make your life easier when cleaning and prevents mould from growing.

#3 Avoid hanging lamps

Hanging lamps are pretty but they look very out of place in a small apartment with low ceiling height. Besides, they are notoriously hard to clean. If you want to install hanging lamps, make sure you get one with the lamp shade facing down to prevent dust accumulation.

#4 Close up your kitchen

You may be tempted to have an open-concept kitchen, especially in a small apartment to make the space look bigger. However, if you cook regularly, you will make your entire house grimy and oily whenever you cook! Opt for transparent material such as glass doors to close up the kitchen when you are cooking.

#5 Create separate wet and dry areas in your toilet

Although BTO toilets are notoriously small, make sure you still have a separate wet and dry area to keep your bathroom easy to clean. When water splashes all around the bathroom, it makes the area more susceptible to mould so make sure you at least have a shower curtain to keep the water from entering the dry area.

#6 Opt for floor to ceiling wardrobes

Although this may require your furniture to be custom-made, it is so worth it! Having a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe maximises the space in your room to store all your items and you can even plan it to occupy a small nook so that you have a little walk-in wardrobe in your bedroom!

#7 Bedside light switch

Make sure you get dual light switches in your bedroom to turn off the lights from your bedside. You don't want to climb out from your comfy blanket in the middle of night to turn off the lights and scramble back to your bed in the dark!

#8 Opt for slim-legged furniture in small homes

For BTO homes and smaller house units, opt for furniture with thin legs to create more space visually. If you opt for bulky furniture that flushes to the floor, your home may look cramped and tight on space.
