Always wanted to try an omakase experience, but not a fan of the typically exorbitant prices? You're in major luck, because Sushidan has opened its doors in Singapore with a more casual, affordable take on omakase! On the menu are ultra-fresh edomae (traditional seafood-focused Tokyo-style) à la carte sushi from $1.99, sashimi from $2.99 and omakase from $19.90.

With prices like that, there's honestly no need for girl mathing, you can just head right down and feast to your heart's desire anytime.

And as if that's not enough to get any sushi enthusiast excited, Sushidan was created by Chef Hiroyuki Sato, the former head chef of a Michelin-starred restaurant in Japan, and helmed by Chef Yusuke Kawana, a Tokyo-trained sushi master with over 28 years of experience. You can bet that every dish that leaves the kitchen is held to super-high standards!

As hardcore sushi lovers ourselves, we headed down to get a taste of the offerings ASAP.

For $19.90, their omakase set includes:
• Premium Nigiri: Akami, Amaebi, and Salmon
• Inari and a Negitoro handroll
• Three Ochoko Mini-Don bowls: Barachirashi, Anago/Unagi, and Salmon Mentaiko Mayo Aburi
• Chawanmushi and Miso Soup

And for an extra $10, you can opt for the $29.90 omakase set which comes premium Engawa and Chutoro sushi.

In case you're wondering, the sushi here tastes extra yummy because it features the renowned Red Shari, which is a premium sushi rice seasoned with two kinds of red vinegar from Kyoto and Tokyo. Sushidan also uses fresh seafood sourced directly from Toyosu Market and all the salmon is air flown fresh daily from Norway.

The restaurant offers both counter and regular seating, and while my introverted colleague comments that she would be happy to enjoy her sushi at a regular table, I'd still recommend the counter seats to anyone who loves a bit of action to go with their meal.

Not only are the chefs all incredibly friendly and welcoming, they're entertaining to watch as they make sushi with no small amount of showmanship. There's also something extra appetising about watching your food get prepared live before you taste it. Plus, we were lucky enough to catch Chef Sato in action right behind the counter and that's surely a treat for the eyes too ;)

All in all, this omakase left us with no choice but to literally eat and leave no crumbs. Verdict? We foresee ourselves returning to Sushidan more times than is wise for our wallets!
