Right this very moment, world-famous masterpieces like Renoir's romantic and slightly saucy Dance at Bougival, Cézanne's Fruit and a Jug on a Table (FYI: one of the most popular fruit bowl paintings ever), and a whole bunch of 17 Monets — even the legend herself, The Water Lily Pond — are all hanging out at the National Gallery Singapore.

Why, you ask? The National Gallery's latest blockbuster exhibition, Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is finally happening. Come 14 November 2025, visitors to the Singtel Special Exhibition Galleries will get to see over 100 artworks created by iconic French Impressionist painters with their very own eyes. And best of all, most of them are being showcased in Singapore for the very first time!

This long-awaited collaboration has been in the works for quite a while, as plans for a project between the National Gallery and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston were thwarted by the pandemic in 2020. But boy is it worth the wait, because this party's setlist is absolutely stacked.

Besides pieces by the aforementioned painters, visitors can also expect to see famed works from the rest of their Impressionist crew: Manet, Degas, Pissaro, Morisot, Sisley, and more. These art bigwigs are joined by notable Singaporean artists Georgette Chen and Lim Yew Kuan, alongside a special animated film on plein air painting in Vietnam.

The whole exhibition spans seven thematic sections, each one with its own unique vibe and presentation. Our faves are 2. Plein Air Impressionism with its pretty baby blue walls and focus on outdoor scenes, 5. Modern Encounters and its collection of dramatised, large depictions of everyday life, and of course, the grand finale: 7. Monet — Moment and Memory.

This last gallery is circular, much like the famed Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, which houses Claude Monet's magnum opus Water Lilies. And while the paintings here are by no means as large and panoramic, the design similarly encourages visitors to view multiple pieces as parts of a whole instead of in isolation.

The gallery is also perfect for those who prefer to take a walk around while viewing the art, and the ideal spot for aesthetically pleasing museum photos. Speaking of which, you'll find The Water Lily Pond here too, which quite rightfully deserves its own display wall.

To round off your visit, pop by The Gallery Store to see the exclusive merchandise created especially for this exhibition. Besides the gorgeous 228-page catalogue and 48-page booklet, there's an impressive array of Impressionist-themed greeting cards, shirts, as well as a tote bag and scarf.

In case you're wondering, this extended hangout between French Impressionist masterpieces will run till 1 March 2026, with tickets starting from $15 for Singaporeans and PRs, and $25 for other nationalities (enjoy 30% off your ticket when you checkout online, valid from now until 30 November 2025).

FYI: A flight from Singapore to Boston would set you back roughly S$1,500 (round trip), so girl math says you're saving money by seeing the exhibit here!

Art aficionados may also want to hurry down over this weekend, since admission to all galleries will be FREE in celebration of National Gallery Singapore's 10th birthday.
