Rosé Talks New Music And Handles The Heat On 'Hot Ones' With A Stress Ball
Rosé from BLACKPINK brought her A-game when she appeared on Hot Ones, taking on the fiery wing challenge while sharing stories about BLACKPINK's journey, her solo music, and her hit song “APT” featuring Bruno Mars. She powered through increasingly spicy wings, all while looking stunning in a gold shimmery cardigan by BODE, with matching gold nails that complemented her signature blonde hair.

The Inspiration Behind APT

When host Sean Evans got around to the topic of APT, Rosé lit up as she described the backstory. “APT” is inspired by a popular Korean drinking game called aparteu, which translates to “apartment.” “It’s one of many drinking games, but that seemed to be the one that all my friends in the studio were vibing to,” she said with a grin. “I taught them once, and they just kept coming back to it—‘Can we do it again?’ I was like, ‘Huh, this is interesting, why do you guys love this so much?’ And so it inspired me to be like, I think we should write like a song on this because they were so addicted to it. I was really lucky enough to have Bruno jump on it. Craziest experience of my life.”

Rosé Talks About Rosie

Rosé revealed that her upcoming album Rosie is deeply personal, inspired by how "life has been pretty bad lately" and filled with "heartbreaking stories." She shared, "Literally this album is a representation of my past three to four years and all the raw and honest emotions that I've never talked about before. It's just like a representation of that and so it has a lot of like my heartbreaking stories in there and vulnerable emotions built into it." Reflecting on the creative journey, she added, "I think that's the beauty of it, that's what I like most about creating—is that you can take something not so great into something beautiful."

Rosé also looked back on BLACKPINK’s early days, sharing how their formation came after intense training. “So we’re already in the company, we’re, like, at the company every day. And then they start forming us, they selected us,” she explained. “Then we started hitting the studio, doing sessions, creating music. Slowly, it starts to become real. One day, it’s just the four of us, we have a song, and then they give you a date, like, ‘Now you’re going to shoot a video.’”

When asked about the secret ingredient that makes BLACKPINK so powerful, she didn’t hesitate. “I think BLACKPINK, all four of us… the one thing that’s so strong about BLACKPINK is the fact that each one of us, we want such big things for ourselves and we work so hard every day,” Rosé said earnestly. “I’ve never seen someone that’s just like, ‘I just want to rest.’ Even if we’ve said that before, I don’t think anyone means it. BLACKPINK is really hardworking.” And with their record-breaking achievements, it’s clear that hard work is paying off.”
But as the heat levels soared, even Rosé struggled a bit. Lucky for her, a stress ball came to the rescue. Evans noticed how it seemed to help her push through the last bites. Who needs milk when you can squeeze the pain away?

From Auckland to Melbourne and then to South Korea at 15, Rosé’s journey to becoming a global star with BLACKPINK is nothing short of inspiring. The group’s first album, The Album, made waves by reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200—the highest debut for any K-pop girl group. With Born Pink, BLACKPINK set another record as the first female Korean act to claim the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.
Rosé’s solo album Rosie will drop on 6 December via Atlantic Records.
