Following the new BHC Chicken outlet, KINEX mall is now home to another exciting food concept that just might be worth the walk from Paya Lebar MRT station. We're talking about a dessert cafe, Summer Bliss 井澤冰甜 (jing ze bing tian), that offers desserts so kawaii, they might trigger some cute aggression.
This Chinese dessert chain has over 400 outlets in China and has now opened its first outlet in Singapore!
The interior has quaint, family-run cafe vibes with touches of unfinished wood, textured glass and fabric dividers with illustrations of desserts. On the menu are Taiwanese- and Japanese-style treats including shaved ice, cakes, ice cream, soufflé pancakes as well as beverages like coffee and tea.

The main attraction is the Snow Ice, a range of shaved ice desserts in vibrant colours, all beautifully decorated with toppings like fruit, cookies and sprinkles. There are over 10 flavours to choose from including Coco Summer Ice, which comes in a regular size ($15.90) that's good for two. Certain flavours come in a large size ($19.90) for two to three diners.
This dessert looked lovely, living up to its illustrated version on the menu, and was served with condensed milk, sour popping candy and boba. It was surprisingly quite jelak as the coconut-flavoured shaved ice was milky and dense, and only took up about a fifth of the bowl. The rest of it was filled with grass jelly, pudding, more boba, nata de coco, mango cubes and whipped cream.

If you're not that hungry for dessert, go for the Hand Held Cup Series ($11.90), petite versions of the Snow Ice desserts presented in a cup. The Rainbow Bear Bliss Cup came with a refreshing and tangy mango-flavoured shaved ice, mango cubes and a mango-flavoured ice bear. Again, there was only a thin layer of shaved ice, with the toppings taking up most of the cup.

It took about 15 minutes for our two desserts to be served, even on a slow weekday, but that's perfectly understandable as making things look pretty takes time.
Both were satisfying but not particularly impressive, and the prices are steep for the quantity. We've had better shaved ice desserts for less! Still, if you're in the area and don't mind splurging for the aesthetic, these cute shaved ice desserts are worth a try.
Other photo-worthy menu items include the Purple Taro Bliss, Panda Ice Tube Dessert, and Cherry Blossom Bliss Cup.

The cafe also offers traditional desserts like Soy Pot Bliss ($19.90) and a range of animal-shaped ice creams ($9.90).

The fake food models of the ice creams look promising. Unfortunately, we didn't order any so it's still up in the air if the real thing measures up!
