AJOOMMA Charcoal BBQ: Smokeless Meals With 1-For-1 Soju, Free-Flow Craft Beer & Private Rooms With Karaoke
The local Korean barbecue scene has always been competitive, especially with the wide array of options available in town. But if there's any reason to pass on a hearty meal of KBBQ, it has got to be the smoke — after all, nobody enjoys walking around smelling like grilled meat afterwards. This is why the new AJOOMMA Charcoal BBQ really caught our attention with its promise of a sophisticated, smokeless meal!

Located just 10 minutes by foot from Telok Ayer MRT station, AJOOMMA is a three-storey restaurant with regular seating areas on the first and second floors, and private rooms on the top floor.

The colour scheme makes a play on charcoal, alternating between shades of light grey on the walls to large tinted windows and granite countertops. Overall, the place has a laidback atmosphere, perfect for gatherings between friends and family or a casual date night.
You can instantly tell if a Korean restaurant is up to par by the taste of their banchan, and AJOOMMA certainly has a few notable options. We found the ham and fruit salad, as well as the pickled beetroot dishes especially scrumptious.

Moving on to starters, we tried the piping hot Truffle Steamed Egg ($16). Truffle lovers will absolutely adore this because the egg tasted very strongly of it. On the other hand, the Soybean Paste Soup ($20) had a much more mellow flavour, which is best for those who prefer a less overpowering soup to go with their dishes.

If you're just like us and are completely nuts about seafood, you'll be facing a real dilemma here since the Seafood Pancake ($32), Salmon Sashimi ($9 for 5 pcs) and Pan-Seared US Scallops ($38) are all really delicious. Talk about a triple threat!

Of course, the meat is always the main event at a Korean BBQ and AJOOMMA's is no different. Those who are prepared to splurge can opt for the Miyazaki A4 Wagyu Short Rib ($70 for 150gm) or Westholme Aug Wagyu 8/9 Ribeye ($85 for 150gm) — both of them come with gorgeous marbling and pack lots of flavour in every bite.

Our personal favourite, however, has to be the Sous Vide w Thyme Pork Jowl ($39 for 150gm). It is soft and juicy, pairing well with any of the condiments provided or just eaten on its own.
At the end of our meal, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the smell of barbecue was indeed minimal and we could barely get a whiff of it from our hair and clothes. It's safe to say that AJOOMMA is the spot for you if you're sensitive to leftover odours after a meal of barbecue!

Diners who are looking for a bit of fun to spice up their meal can also opt to book one of the two private rooms at AJOOMMA, which come fully equipped with a karaoke system and adjustable mood lighting! The smaller private room requires a minimum spend of $500 and can seat up to 8 people, while the larger private room requires a minimum spend of $1000 and can accommodate up to 16 people.

And if that's not enough, AJOOMMA is currently running a whole bunch of promotions to celebrate their opening. All diners get to enjoy a 1-for-1 soju offer with no minimum spend required. For those who prefer beer, you can get free-flow Little Creatures Craft Beer with a minimum spend of $40 per person.
That's not all, because Happy Hour is officially open from 6 to 8 pm, which means you can enjoy cocktails, wines and beers at only $9 a glass. Now that's a steal if ever we saw one. Not in the mood for drinks? Bring your bestie or loved one over to AJOOMMA for lunch and get their 1-for-1 lunch sets at just $20!
