Waa Cow! Opens Its 1st Yakiniku Restaurant In Singapore With A Wide Variety Of Dipping Sauces
Serangoon Gardens dwellers, a new affordable BBQ joint has landed in your hood: Waa Cow!
Known for their flame-torched wagyu beef bowls, Waa Cow! has opened its first-ever yakiniku concept at myVillage, the small upscale mall a stone's throw away from Chomp Chomp Food Centre.

Singapore has no shortage of affordable, fast-dining BQQ joints, but what sets Waa Cow! apart from them are their variety of beef cuts as well as unique dippings.
The meat can be ordered a la carte in quantities of 100g and 200g, as combos ($9.90 - $29.90), or as a set (+$5) with Japanese rice, Spicy Miso & Leek Relish dipping and a drink.
Our favourite beef cut was coincidentally the most affordable option, the Karubi ($6.90/$11.90). The thinly sliced meat was fatty and flavourful on its own even without sauce.

We also enjoyed the Oyster Blade ($13.90/$25.90) for its bolder flavour and juiciness. Other beef cuts to look forward to are the Ox Tongue ($18.90/$27.90) and Striploin Steak ($16.90).
For pork, you can't go wrong with Pork Belly ($5.90). But if you're craving something with a bit more bite, go for the Premium Pork Collar ($7.90).

Other grilled items include the Chicken Thigh ($4.90) and Japanese Pork Sausage ($6 for six pieces).
While the beef was the main star of Waa Cow!, the dipping sauces were a close runner-up. We find that the Garlic Butter Teriyaki sauce goes well with everything, while the Ponzu Negi, a refreshing sweet and tangy dip, cuts through the oiliness of fattier cuts.
Already impressed with these two complimentary sauces, we went on to try the additional five dips in exciting flavours. The ones we'd reorder are Truffle ($0.90), a creamy and decadent sauce with a pronounced truffle flavour, Mentaiko ($0.90), an addictive sauce packed with umami, and Sweet Sukiyaki with Raw Egg ($2.50) a savoury sauce that balances with the saltier flavours and gives the meat a succulent bite. The raw egg sauce was also ideal for salvaging the meat we accidentally overcooked.

Those who like a bit of kick to their grilled meats can go for the Wasabi Mayo ($0.90) and Spicy Miso with Leek Relish ($1.90).
For first-time diners, your best option is to get the Signature All Dips Platter ($3.90) to try all five sauces. They can also be mixed together to create your own custom blend. Some delicious combinations that worked well were the Spicy Miso with Garlic Butter Teriyaki, and the Sweet Sukiyaki with Ponzu Negi.
With all these contrasting flavours, we were surprised to find Truffle Rice (a la carte: $4, set: +$7) on the menu. But after trying it, we were sold! It had the most subtle aroma, giving it a wonderful depth that didn't compete with the grilled meats and sauces.

Another unexpected section of the menu was the fresh air-flown sashimi. We tried the Amaebi Platter ($21.90), which had a mix of silky and fatty Norwegian Salmon, melt-in-your-mouth Hokkaido Scallop and Sweet Prawns.

Waa Cow! Yakiniku sports a stylish look with bold blues and a striking mural depicting the brand's journey from six years ago. There is a limited-time opening promo code on the mural that you can key in when placing your order to redeem a complimentary Signature All Dips Platter. Here's a hint: it' has five characters and the last one is an exclamation mark.
