This Old-School Bakery In Singapore Has Launched Limited-Edition Minion Ang Ku Kueh With “Surprise” Fillings
Homegrown traditional bakery Ji Xiang Confectionery may have been around since 1985, but they’ve set their sights on capturing the hearts of the younger generation.

Famous for their ang ku kueh, which is made in the Nonya style with a much chewier red pastry skin, the store now purveys eight flavours including salty bean paste, corn, coconut, yam, and durian (seasonal). Back then, the family-run business sold just two flavours, peanut and sweet bean paste.

At the height of Squid Games’ popularity, they offered workshops teaching participants how to make ang ku kueh in the shape of the Netflix series’ iconic guards in their red jumpsuits and fencing masks. Riding on its popularity, they’ve now launched minion ang ku kueh inspired by the “Despicable Me” movie franchise.

According to the bakery chain, these minion ang ku kuehs come in a box of three for $12 and will be sold at their Bugis Village flagship store, Jurong Point Kopitiam, Plaza Singapura Kopitiam, and Lau Pa Sat Food Folk. By the looks of their social media postings, the minion ang ku kuehs are crafted with a variety of adorable and cheeky expressions just like in the movie.

The blue and yellow versions are a tad special as they have a “surprise flavour combo” of sweet mung bean paste and a small piece of banana—the minions’ favourite treat.
