Wedding hairstyles, when jazzed up with accessories, typically involve tiaras and flowers. But a new bridal hair trend that’s gaining steady traction is pearls. This isn’t the same as the Korean pearl hairclip trend that was recently popularised by IU; While that has a more innocent vibe, this bridal pearls-in-hair style with Western roots is one that brings added elegance and sophistication.

Pearls can be added to your wedding hairdo in a variety of ways:

  • Use pearl-topped hair pins (wider versions of bobby pins)
  • String on some pearl hair beads (a proper threading tool must be used)
  • Wrap and weave a faux pearl necklace, or string of pearls, through your tresses
  • Paste on some pearly hair stickers

What you pick really depends on your desired outcome and other considerations like your wedding venue and activities involved. Using hair stickers would be the easiest and least time-consuming, but also the least lasting, which may not be a good idea for outdoor weddings.

An entire string would be suitable for weaving into braids, but using single hair pins gives you more freedom in placement. Also, not all hair and makeup artists in Singapore might have their own pearl beads and threading tools, since beads in hair isn’t a common wedding hairstyle request here.

Pearls are a great way to dress up an otherwise plain ponytail, and can also bring an ethereal touch to boho-style braids. To go even fancier, attach a white bow to the base of your pony - this could be in the form of a hair clip or a ribbon.

The pearly look also goes great with a classy chignon bun, with the sleek neatness of the hairstyle allowing the pearls to stand out more prominently.

Not everything in life has to be symmetrical - as these hairstyles show, fixing pearls into just one side of your hair brings a regal aura that’ll let you channel your inner Kate Middleton.

Messy buns also look lovely adorned with pearls, providing points of interest amidst all the texture. Bonus: Put on a pair of pearl earrings for seamless matching!

Or, use a pearl-embellished bridal veil. If you can’t find a ready-made one at bridal stores, get creative with some simple DIY-ing.

Those who prefer letting their hair loose can still get in on the trend, with the pearls strung through random portions of the hair for that goddess-like cascading effect.

This look below with diagonal placement is another option. While it’s asymmetrical with varying bead sizes, it still maintains a certain neatness as the invisible diagonal "line" is sectioned out distinctly.
