Terrace House is a Japanese reality TV series where 6 strangers - 3 men and 3 women - live together in the same house for a given time. During this period, they have unscripted interactions with each other and also attempt to find love.
Fans of the show were met with shock and sadness last Saturday, 23 May 2020, when news of Hana Kimura’s death broke out. The cause of death has not been explicitly confirmed, but is widely speculated by fans and co-stars to be suicide.

The pink-haired 22-year-old from Yokohama was constantly on the receiving end of cyberbullying. On the day of her death, she wrote on Twitter, "I have received nearly 100 honest opinions every day and I cannot deny that I got hurt."
In her last Instagram update on the same day, she posted a photo of herself with her pet cat, accompanied by the words, “I love you, have a long, happy life. I’m sorry”.

Hana also wrote a note to her mother, wrestler Kyoko Kimura, before she died. Part of it said, “Thank you for giving birth to me, Mom. I wanted to be loved in life.”
Like her mum, Hana was also a professional wrestler. Kyoko has yet to make any public comments regarding her daughter’s death.

Other Terrace House stars have also been targets of online hate. Ex-cast Ryo Tawatari lashed out at cyber bullies, saying, “How can you judge people you have never met and only seen on screen? Did they do something directly to you that you didn't like? What do you know? Are you perfect?
“Before you talk about other people's lives, live your own life.”
