We DIY-ed Our Own Barbie Angel Wings At This $10 Workshop & Got The Doll Free
Anyone who says they’re “too old” for Barbie is really just depriving themselves of free serotonin — and now, free Barbie dolls with angel wings that you get to design yourself!
Over at Wisma Atria’s Wings of Childhood: Barbie Doll Wing-Making Workshop, you’ll spend an afternoon making dreamy, iridescent doll-sized angel wings with Singapore paper sculpture artist Dawn Koh using upcycled materials, no less.

It’s equal parts art jamming, childhood nostalgia and festive feel-good vibes, all for $10 with proceeds going to HCSA SPIN through Community Chest Singapore. And yes, you’ll get to bring the doll home!

Every Saturday, the L1 Indoor Atrium at Wisma Atria plays host to this magical creative workshop. We popped by to try it for ourselves, and found the whole process fun, fuss-free and super therapeutic.
Step 1: Pick up your Barbie & claim your craft station

When you arrive at the atrium, you’re checked in and directed to a table laid out with everything you need.
Each seat comes with:
- A Barbie doll (she’s yours to keep at the end)
- A basic wing base to build your design on
- Curated trays of upcycled iridescent paper, cellophane and decorative cutouts
- Glitter glue and colourful paint markers
- Tools like scissors, glue, washi tape, and more!
Step 2: Dream up your Barbie angel

Next, it’s time to decide what kind of angel wings your Barbie will have. This is where you can channel your inner fashion designer and let your imagination go wild!
Because the workshop uses upcycled materials, every scrap of ribbon and iridescent paper is slightly different, so no two wing designs end up the same. You can expect to spend a bit of time mixing and matching your pieces.

Pro tip: if you’re not sure what to do, why not take inspiration from the 70+ gorgeous couture Barbie fits displayed all around the L1 Atrium?

These are created in collaboration with LASALLE College of the Arts – School of Fashion, local creatives, and Singapore artists.
Step 3: Put your angel wings onto Barbie

When your wings are ready, it’s time to attach them.
You’ll be given reusable loops to fit them onto Barbie’s back. These loops are easy to use and remove, so you can put them on whenever you like.
Step 4: Strike a pose at the toy photo booth

Okay, you’ve completed your Barbie angel. But she’s not just going straight into your bag!
Bring her over to the Toy Photo Booth, where you can pose her against a curated backdrop, capture photobooth-style pictures and videos of your creation, and play around with angles and framing to show off her wings.
Step 5: See your design light up the Christmas tree

Best of all, the magic doesn’t end there. Submit a photo of your completed Barbie angel via the QR provided and watch it become part of Wisma Atria’s festive showcase!
Your design will be translated into digital visuals, appearing on the L2 Outdoor Christmas Tree LED screens and joining a rotation of glowing, winged designs as part of the mall’s Christmas decorations.
