You know the sando, pretty Japanese-style sandwiches made with pillowy soft bread and stuffed with fillings. But brace yourself for an (arguably) elevated version - the fried sando. First seen in Ginza, Tokyo, in 2023, these viral sandwiches has made its way to Singapore. Tamago-EN at NEX has unveiled a new Tama-Sando menu with nine glorious fried sandos.

They're available for takeaway only and and best enjoyed on the spot!

Trendy foods don't always live up to the hype, but these sandos do! Fried to a golden crisp, the bread has a fun crunch on the outside while staying light and fluffy inside. It's everything you'd want from a fried sandwich: rich, buttery and indulgent. Tamago-EN chose this specific type of shokupan bread as it holds its pocket-like shape when fried, leaving space for sweet and savoury fillings.

And speaking of the fillings, every sandwich is jam-packed to the brim - so full that they're almost bursting out of the bread.

Our top pick from the savoury brunch is the Egg Salad Sando ($5.50). The creamy, savoury and comforting egg mayo is the perfect match for the fried bread. If you're craving something simple yet highly satisfying, this is the one to order.

If you're looking for a quick lunch, some other options are the Chicken Nanban Sando ($5.90), Curried Shakshuka Sando ($5.50), and Beef Steak Sando ($7.90).

If you're more of a dessert sando person, you can't go wrong with any of the five delicious choices. The fried bread pairs even better with the cold, sweet fillings. We especially enjoyed the classic Strawberry Sando ($5.50) that had a lovely balance of sweetness and tang, as well as the Tiramisu Sando ($5.50) with fresh mascarpone cream and coffee-soaked biscuits.

Close runner-ups are the White Peach Sando ($5.50) with walnuts and cinnamon powder, and the beautifully caramelised Crème Brûlée Sando ($5.50).

For the purest taste of that crispy fried shokupan bread, try the Plain Sando ($3.50). As its name suggests, this sandwich is filled with just fresh cream filling - letting the bread take centre stage.
