Disney's 'Tangled' Is Getting A Live-Action Remake, And We Are Screaming Internally

We can all let down our hair now, because Disney's Tangled is getting a live-action remake!

While Disney is keeping the cast under wraps for now, The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is reportedly in talks to take the helm. Producers Kristin Burr (Cruella, Freaky Friday) and Lucy Kitada are on board, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) handling the script.

For those who might need a refresher, Tangled tells the story of Rapunzel, the golden-haired princess with magical healing powers. Stolen as a baby by the wicked Mother Gothel, Rapunzel grows up locked in a tower, believing the outside world is far too dangerous. That all changes when charming thief Flynn Rider stumbles into her life, sparking an adventure filled with self-discovery, lantern-lit skies, and a sassy chameleon named Pascal.

The 2010 animated classic, starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, was a massive hit, pulling in $592 million worldwide. Its catchy and heartwarming soundtrack, including the Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning "I see the Light", quicky became a fan favourite. The film's success even inspired a short (Tangled Ever After) and a TV series (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure).

Disney has been on a roll with live-action remakes lately, turning animated favourites like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast into real-life spectacles. Upcoming projects include Snow White and Lilo & Stitch in 2025 and Moana in 2026, with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui.
