Disney Releases First Teaser Trailer For 'Mufasa: The Lion King': Prequel To 2019's 'The Lion King'
Disney has just released the teaser trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, giving us the best peek so far at the live-action prequel to the 2019 The Lion King. Starting with a new version of Circle of Life, we hear Rafiki, voiced by John Kani, telling the story of Mufasa, a "lion who's going to change our lives forever."

Directed by Moonlight director, Barry Jenkins, this story follows Mufasa, a lion who was "born without a drop of nobility in his blood" but grew up to be the king of the jungle, alongside his brother Taka aka Scar, the main antagonist in The Lion King.

The movie's summary reveals that Mufasa's journey is told to Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala, played by Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Beyonce will also reprise her role as Nala.

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. voice the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar. James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa in both the 1994 original and the 2019 remake, while Jeremy Irons voiced Scar in 1994, and Chiwetel Ejiofor in 2019.

Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will reprise their roles as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively, from Favreau’s 2019 The Lion King, which grossed $1.7 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing Disney-branded film ever.

The cast also features Donald Glover returning as Simba, Tiffany Boone as Sarabi, Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki, Preston Nyman as Zazu, Thandiwe Newton as Taka’s mother Eshe, Lennie James as Taka’s father Obasi, Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa’s mother Afia, Keith David as Mufasa’s father Masego, and John Kani as Rafiki.
The film will premiere in theatres 19 December 2024.
