Greta Gerwig Wants To Do A Barbie Sequel
Barbie 2 is in the spotlight again with some exciting updates as Greta Gerwig has changed her mind about the possibility of a sequel. Gerwig, along with Noah Baumbach, co-wrote and directed the first Barbie movie, which turned out to be a massive hit in 2023. It received rave reviews from both critics and audiences, even landing nine Oscar nominations and winning one for Best Original Song. This unexpected success has sparked talks about a sequel, even though Greta and Margot Robbie, who produced and starred in the first film, had previously dismissed the idea.

In a recent update on Barbie 2, Greta has shifted her stance. Speaking with Deadline's Baz Bamigboye at Vanity Fair's Oscars after-party, she expressed openness to the idea of a sequel. While she initially hesitated about the concept, she now indicates a willingness to pursue it. "I'm not dismissing it; I want to do it," Greta stated, though she admits she's still uncertain about the direction a sequel should take.

Although Greta seems to have shifted her stance on directing Barbie 2, the sequel won't be her next project. She's officially signed on to direct The Chronicles of Narnia reboot for Netflix, based on C.S. Lewis' fantasy novels. However, her commitment is only for the first two films of the series, not all seven. Currently, she's in the early stages of pre-production, and filming for Narnia isn't scheduled to begin until late 2024 or early 2025.
