Pillowy, chewy and oh-so satisfying, mochi has become a food trend that's here to stay. If you're just as obsessed with this sweet treat as I am, here's some good news for us: there's a new cafe in town where you can get your mochi fix - Café Usagi TOKYO.

Helmed by Japanese chef and creative director Yuka Shigeno, the cosy little cafe at Suntec City offers a range of mochi- and matcha-centred desserts, ice cream and beverages, all of which are made with natural ingredients and colouring.

Mochi Ice Cream (from $6), the standout menu item, is a generous scoop of matcha ice cream encased in a thin layer of mochi. This TikTok-viral dessert is hard to come by in Singapore, so it's cause for celebration to finally have one that's done right here, and at such a convenient location to boot.

The creamy yet light matcha ice cream had a wonderfully smooth and layered flavour with just a touch of grassiness. The pairing with chewy mochi only took things up a notch.

If you're someone who shies away from matcha for its bitter and strong taste, give this one a go, it'll probably make you reconsider your stance on matcha!

I'm certain the Mochi Waffles with Kuromitsu Syrup ($8.50) will also be a hit. These fluffy and fragrant waffles had a layer of mochi inside which made it a lot of fun to munch on, starting with an airy and crispy bite followed by a squishy, QQ chew.

You can opt to complete your dessert with handcrafted ice creams which are made using imported Hokkaido milk and come in classic flavours like Rich Chocolate as well as unique ones such as Lavender Hojicha and Samurai Blue Sea Salt.

More mochi desserts you can find at Café Usagi TOKYO include Strawberry Daifuku ($6.90) and Mochi Dorayaki ($6.90).

While you're there, look out for the Matcha with Hokkaido Azuki Red Bean and Mochi Bread ($8.80), a takeaway-exclusive item that's made in limited quantities daily.

This adorable bunny-shaped loaf of bread also comes in two other flavours: Hokkaido Chocolate Chip and Milk White Bread.

Complement all that sweetness with a refreshing beverage like Iced Uji Matcha Latte ($6.80) and Iced Hojicha Latte ($6.80) or the comforting Lavender Hojicha Pot ($7.90).

While Café Usagi TOKYO doesn't have the same Insta-worthy factor as other Japanese cafes in Singapore, it's a fine spot that'll take your tastes buds to Japan! Their desserts have an authentic Japanese-style quality and aren't overly sweet. Even matcha snobs will be impressed with the matcha offerings, and of course, those who love mochi will love the selection of mochi-infused treats.

On 9 and 10 April, Café Usagi TOKYO at Suntec City will have a 1-for-1 Mochi Ice Cream promotion, limited to two orders per customer and while servings last.

Note that aside from the ice cream, the food items shown above will only be available from 1 April.

Café Usagi TOKYO is located at Suntec City Tower 3 #02-615A and has a second outlet at 111 Somerset #01-42.
