Little Farms’ New Tanglin Mall Outlet Ft. Starter Lab Bakery, Specialty Cheese Counter & All-Day Dining Cafe
Thanks to the whiffs of freshly baked sourdough bread and the sight of colourful produce as far as the eye can see, it’s easy to forget that I’m in the middle of a mall. Inspired by the vibrant farmer’s markets of Australia, neighbourhood marketplace Little Farms has cemented itself as a firm favourite among both locals and expats alike, since launching in Singapore six years ago.

Its sixth and newest location on level two of Tanglin Mall is testimony to what it does best—the freshest assortment of groceries, meats, dairy, seafood, and plant-based alternatives backed by sustainable sources.

Stepping into the space, I found my eyes darting towards the specialty cheese department on the left. The first of its kind for the chain, the cheese selection ranges from classic offerings like emmental and cheddar to exotic blue cheeses. Don’t fancy turning up empty-handed at a dinner party? Stop by to pick up a customised charcuterie board and you’re all set.

This outlet has also welcomed a new and long-term partnership with homegrown bakery Starter Lab and now serves artisanal creations like sourdough breads and cookies through a live-view counter. Carb lovers will be spoilt for choice by options like the rosemary sea salt sourdough and seeded sourdough.

Meanwhile, the deli and butcher counters remain inviting with its wide variety of prized cuts like wagyu beef and organic chicken breasts, alongside pre-seasoned meats such as lamb cutlets and sausages. You’ll be able to discover underrated cuts like the onglet, which is flavourful and tender.

Headlined by the well-loved Hass avocados, said to be the best ones in Singapore, the fruit and vegetable section prides itself on being fresh from farms. I particularly loved the saccharine sweet donut peaches and the cherry tomatoes on vine. What’s impressive is how seasonal produce is harvested and transported from farm to store in just 48 hours so fresh is really an understatement.
What’s a grocer without a solid wine section? The one here has everything from champagnes to reds and whites, as well as alcohol-free spirits.

Seamlessly incorporated into the space, all-day dining cafe Little Farms Table serves a mix of wholesome and indulgent foods featuring ingredients from both Starter Lab and the grocer. Wooden partitions and plush seats, surrounded by lush greenery, create a cosy vibe for diners to relax in. The light-coloured tables, which can seat up to 75 customers, are made from recycled plastic.

Great for family-style communal meals, the signature “Starter” Blinis Board ($20 for three people; $30++ for five people) featured crispy pancakes with a distinct sourdough tang to it. This paired beautifully with the heirloom tomatoes, feta, beetroot cured Akaroa salmon, and greens from the store’s “Edible Wall” by Grobrix.

For a pizza that won’t leave you too full for anything else, go for the handcrafted Sourdough Flatbreads (from $20), in a variety of flavours like tomato, pepperoni, scamoza, and pecorino.

Bigger appetites will appreciate the hearty Braised Ox Cheek Pappardelle ($28), which has locally grown mushrooms from social enterprise urban farmers Mushroom Buddies. Vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free options are aplenty, including the Spice-charred Cauliflower ($21), which comes with a refreshing mix of pomegranate, avocado, mint yoghurt, and more.

It’s easy to feel right at home here, with servers and counter staff alike eager to share their knowledge and suggestions on how best to cook the produce you’ve bought. We heard someone even came by with their home recipe for a dish and had them help marinate the meat to their liking!
