Actor Shahid Kapoor is on cloud nine after Kabir Singh became the highest-grossing film of 2019. Despite receiving flak for glorifying misogyny, the movie did wonders at the box office. A couple of days back, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga defended the movie but the actor didn't speak a word on the controversies. Now, Shahid has finally broken his silence and defended the film saying that the character has anger management issues and there is nothing else wrong with him.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he stated that people would have appreciated a character like Kabir Singh in Hollywood but things are different here. He said, "Who are we to judge characters?’ ‘Why do we judge characters?’ That’s so hypocritical. When you see people in Hollywood do these things, you say, ‘Wow, so brave!’ But somebody does it out here; ‘How dare you?’ Have same standards."

Right from the beginning, the film was called misogynistic. Shahid talked about it saying that Kabir Singh had a problem with everyone. He said, "This word, misogyny was often used for the film. Misogyny, I think, means prejudice towards women, But Kabir Singh had a problem with everyone. He had a problem with his father, his brother, he abuses everyone. He has a problem with his friends, his principal…just everyone. How does he have a problem towards women? I felt he was behaving badly with everyone."

The handsome hunk further stated that actors have to be brave with their choices. Just like Sandeep, he also gave the example of Sanju emphasising on the fact that the character in the film admitted sleeping with 310 girls. However, he liked the movie.

Shahid said that he has no problem with people not liking the movie. He added, "you can walk out saying you hated the guy I would be happy. I don’t have a problem with people saying I don’t like the film. But people started saying if you like this film, you are not a good person. How can you say that? It (the film) got attacked by certain people and was loved by junta on the other hand."

Along with Shahid, the film also featured Kiara Advani in the crucial role. Kabir Singh was the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy that featured Vijay Deverakonda as the protagonist.
