Yanxi Palace Steamboat Has Rose Tofu & Beef, Rainbow Noodles, & Ethereal Jelly With Gold Flakes
While the Chinese period drama, Story of Yanxi Palace has already concluded, there’s still a chance to transport yourself into their ancient world - through your tastebuds, at least.
Clearly inspired by the hype surrounding the series is Yanxi Palace Steamboat, a Chinese hotpot restaurant in Singapore that will give you a royal feasting experience. Imagine that you’re a prince or princess from ancient times as you tuck into rose-shaped tofu and beef, colourful rainbow noodles, and ethereal jelly with flowers and gold flakes - all accompanied by a hearty warm broth.

Yanxi Palace Steamboat is located in Hotel Re!’s ballroom (near Outram and Chinatown), and like most Chinese restaurants, it comes with round tables and cloth-covered chairs.

Apart from strings of fairy lights hanging from walls shrouded in black cloth - which serve as a good photo backdrop - the place appears to be an ordinary hot pot joint. But wait till you catch sight of the food.

The most standout dish at Yanxi Palace Steamboat has to be the Rose Tofu ($8), which comes in a bowl swirling with mystical dry ice fog. Each set comprises 4 colourful pieces of rose-shaped tofu, all naturally coloured in pastel shades.

Another rose-themed item here is the Rose Beef Tongue ($18) - 2 slices of beef tongue folded into floral formations. This ensemble is topped with a fresh flower for enhanced presentation.

On the quirkier end of things is the Seafood Lollipop ($12). Not to be mistaken as a mini mooncake, this savoury treat that comes in a set of 5 is made from cuttlefish paste and meant to be dipped straight into the hot pot broth with its stick. Think of it as a more high-end version of the usual fish cake.

Love a burst of colour? Make sure you order the Organic Handmade Rainbow Noodles ($12). These are served nicely on a wooden tray and come in 4 natural flavours of Pumpkin, Beetroot, Spinach, and Carrot, which explains their attractive hues.

If you’re going with a crew of seafood lovers, try the Seafood Platter ($68), a medley of fresh crayfish, abalone, mussels, and more on a bed of ice. Perfect for sharing! But well, we won’t judge if you wish to attack the whole thing on your own.

Don’t forget to leave some space for dessert! Head straight for the Ice Jelly, which is affordably priced at $5 per portion.

Nope, these aren’t your regular kopitiam Ice Jellies. These ethereal-looking versions come in 3 flavours - Rose (pink), Signature (blue), and Osthmanthus - and are prettily topped with real flower petals and gold flakes.
