Sanrio x Pew Pew Patches: New Designs Inspired By Singapore’s Food, Landmarks & Heritage

Previously, we wrote about Uniqlo’s new Sanrio collection, and the adorable iron-on patches you can redeem for free with a minimum purchase of $60. But don’t worry if you’re not out to splurge on clothes, because Pew Pew Patches - the same local label behind those Uniqlo patches - has other limited edition Sanrio iron-on patches and sticker patches up for sale.

These, too, have a quirky Singaporean flavour, and reimagine characters like Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, Gudetama, and Keroppi living in our sunny island.

At first glance, this just looks like the Little Twin Stars against a ferris wheel, but it’s actually the Singapore Flyer!

The subtle nod to Singapore continues with the Little Twin Stars Go To School patch, which features the siblings in what looks to be the PCF kindergarten uniform circa the 90's - with a cute Japanese-style twist.

It is most fitting that the patches featuring Gudetama are food-themed. After all, he is an egg. Here, he gets transformed into a Curry Puff and Soft Boiled Eggs with kaya toast, aka the quintessential Singaporean breakfast.

He also takes the form of Laksa, Mooncake, and Egg Tarts - and it’s hilariously endearing how sian he looks!

- Hello Kitty -

The homage to Singapore’s food carries on, with Hello Kitty in a Kueh Steamer and as part of the traditional Porcelain Bowl design.

There’s also the Hello Kitty Milo Dinosaur - quite literally. If that’s too much food for you, go for Hello Kitty Blows Bubble, which shows the character playing with those bubble balloons we used to love as children.

Since Keroppi is green, he fits in well with many of our favourite local food items - such as Durian, Pandan Cake, Chendol, and Putu Ayu.

There’s also a set of patches that are inspired by the tiles of Singapore’s heritage shophouses. These are given an extra cute touch with the likeness of Hello Kitty, Gudetama, Keroppi, and My Melody.
