Hitachi Seaside Park in Ikabari, Japan is famous for its large fields filled with an endless sea of beautiful flowers and plants in vivid colours. The greenery in this park are seasonal which means that there's a dramatic change in colour every season!

Among the many flowers and plants in Hitachi Seaside Park, the one that stands out is the iconic and unique Kochia bush that looks like round fluffy poufs.

Kochia (summer cypress) is an annual plant native to dry lands in the Eurasian Continent. The bushes are planted in the summer when they are a vibrant green.

As they grow wilder and woolier from September to mid-October, the green turns into a greenish-red, then to a vivid crimson.

Finally, the Kochia bushes become a bright scarlet in October.

Besides the Kochia landscape, there are also beautiful nemophila flowers! The flowers are round and transparent with a sky-blue colour and tinges of violet.

From late April to mid-May, the park's 4.5 million nemophila flowers bloom and create a stunning scene of seamless blues from the fields to the nearby ocean and the spring skies. Climb up Miharashi Hill to get the best view of the kochia bushes and flowers!

Hitachi Seaside Park is also home to 3400 varieties of roses, colourful tulips and narcissus plants that form a carpet of sunshine.

While you're there to enjoy the view and take snaps for the 'gram, there are also other activities you can do. Visit the Pleasure Garden amusement park, go cycling, play golf, take BMX obstacle courses or let your kids run wild in the forest adventure playground and trampolines.

There are two ways to get there. You can take the JR Joban Line from Shinagawa, Tokyo or Ueno stations to Katsuta Station which takes about an hour and a half, then take a 15-minute bus ride to the park. The other option is to take a highway bus from Tokyo Station to Hitachi Seaside Park which will take about two and a half hours.
