People Made Fun Of Lady Gaga’s Oversized Suit Until She Gave Her Speech.
While many made fun of her choice of clothing at the 25th annual Elle Women in Hollywood celebration, Lady Gaga shut them all down with a powerful speech, which was inspired by her choice of clothing, a Marc Jacobs “Power Suit”.
"Today, I'm wearing the pants to take the power back.?
Her speech was raw, personal and full of emotions as she opened up about her sexual assault when she was 19 and what it means to be a woman. Watching the video brought us close to tears.

In her almost 25-minute long acceptance speech, she said,
"After trying 10 or so dresses, with a sad feeling in my heart, that all that would matter was what I wore to this red carpet, I saw an oversized Marc Jacobs suit buried quietly in the corner.” I put it on to a resounding view of eyes glaring at me in confusion. 'But the Rodarte was so beautiful!' one said. 'But the Raf Simons for Calvin Klein was so stunning on you!' said another. Lots of questions. They were all dresses. This was an oversized men's suit made for a woman. Not a gown. And then I began to cry."

On what it means to be a woman in Hollywood, she said,
“We are not members of a giant beauty pageant meant to be pitted against one another for the pleasure of the public,” She said.
She swopped the dress for the pants to take the power back and to resist the standards of dressing to impress. She felt more like herself in the suit than in fancy dresses. If there’s anything we learned from this amazing and strong woman, it is to be yourself.

"In this suit, I felt like me today. In this suit, I felt the truth of who I am well up in my gut."
