Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

Kids who experienced a (now closed) Build-A-Bear workshop will remember that warm, fuzzy feeling of making their own personal plushie. Now that we're all grown up, there's no reason why we shouldn't feel that magic again. Cue the new The Laboratory By RF store at Cathay Cineleisure, where everyone from gamers and tech geeks to those who simply like having nice things can create their own personalised keyboard.

The Laboratory offers an impressive selection of bases, switches and keycaps from brands like Akko, Gateron, Keychron, Monsgeek, Nuphy and Wooting. Customers can mix and match to their hearts' content to create their fully customised dream keyboard.

The sheer number of customisation options might even be a tad overwhelming for newbies, but not to worry as the staff, endearingly named lab experts, will be on hand to guide you through each step and offer advice on what works best for your lifestyle and needs.

The keyboard creation happens in four simple steps.

First, choose a base, which can range from full-sized marvels to compact ones.

After that, it's time to start putting your fingers to work testing out the various types of switches. The mechanisms under they key caps that you don't see, these switches make a lot of difference to your typing experience. Some make crisp, clicky sounds while others have a more muted tone. You might fancy something that's light and smooth to tap on, or a more sticky sensation.

Finally, it's time for the aesthetic part - choosing the key caps! Again, there's a neat variety of styles that will fit every home office or gaming set up from minimalist man cave to kawaii desks.

Best of all, this keyboard customisation experience isn't as pricey as it looks. We went for the more basic options and our bill came out at just under $150!
