'Freaky Friday 2' Production Begins With Lindsay Lohan And Jamie Lee Curtis Back On Set

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as Tess and Anna Coleman in Freaky Friday 2. Jamie took to Instagram for a mini behind-the-scene photoshoot with her on-screen daughter, Lindsay.

News of the sequel kicked off in 2022 when Curtis mentioned there were "lots of good talks" happening. By the movie's 20th anniversary in May 2023, Jamie and Lindsay reunited for an interview, where Lindsay shared her excitement about diving into the sequel.

Lindsay and Jamie will reunite with original cast members Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.

Joining them in the sequel are newcomers Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, and Sophia Hammon.

Nisha Ganatra will direct the new movie, bringing her experience with the Disney crew from Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales. She's also known for directing female-led films like The High Note starring Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross, and Late Night featuring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson.
What is the plot of Freaky Friday 2?
A casting call from Ganatra revealed some plot details, indicating that Anna's character, played by Lindsay, now has a witty 14-year-old daughter named Harper. Harper, a tomboy with a sharp sense of humour, is at the centre of the story.
The description says, "Harper is in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mum is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davies. If that wasn't bad enough Eric comes with his 14-year-old daughter, sharp-tongued, Lily. Harper and Lily do not see eye to eye. Harper would like to see things go her way and use her intelligence to stop this marriage from ever happening."

When will it hit screens?
Freaky Friday 2 is set to hit screens in 2025, according to Walt Disney Studios. While they've started filming, the exact release date is still under wraps.
