Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

If there's any food texture that's universally revered, it's soft, bouncy and chewy. From tapioca pearls to mochi, QQ foods are oh-so-satisfying to bite and chew into. And good news for us: our QQ food options just expanded with the new Chewy Beret offering colourful cream puffs that have a texture that is - you guessed it - chewy!

Founded by the same owners of Japanese cream puff brand Beard Papa's, Chewy Beret is the first of its kind in the world and its sole outlet is located at Plaza Singapura as a takeaway-only store.

Chewy Beret's branding is on point, with an aesthetically pleasing food display that drew us in right away. Lined up in a row are realistic- and delicious-looking models of the chewy cream puffs in the prettiest colours.

The cream filling is prepared in a factory, and then brought to the store's kitchen where the outer chewy layer is made. The two are then assembled into cream puffs and individually packaged in sealed bags before the store opens for the day.

That means you don't have to wait long even if there's a queue! Simply head to the counter to place your order and receive your packaged snacks right away.

They retail at $2.90 each and $14.50 for a box of six (buy 5 get 1 free), making them about $2.40 each.

These cold puffs were uber soft and the skin had a fun chewy texture as promised. It was not quite as gelatinous or sticky as mochi which made it a light and addictive snack that we could easily wolf down.

What made it filling was the thick yet smooth cream adding a contrasting texture and providing the flavour.

Everything we tried - including Cookies & Cream, Black Forest, Earl Grey Milk Tea, Raspberry White Choco, Mint Cookie and Matcha Azuki - was excellent and we struggled to pick a favourite, although Mango Cheesecake is the must-try flavour in our book. The other flavours are Gula Melaka, Chocolate Banana, Peanut Butter & Jam and Avocado Coconut.

Chewy Beret will also keep their menu fresh with seasonal, limited-time flavours. The current seasonal special is Sakura which will be available till mid May. As lovely as they look, sakura-ed food is not my cup of tea. But thankfully, this cream puff had just a tinge of floral flavour perfectly balanced out with a subtle sweetness.

On a related note, if you're a fan of QQ food, you'll love the mochi-infused desserts at the new Café Usagi TOKYO.
