Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

Granted, the purpose of travelling to Thailand is enjoying the Thai experience, but there's a hidden gem in Chiang Mai that's too breathtaking not to mention: Versailles de Flore cafe. Not counting architecture connoisseurs & history buffs, visitors at the cafe will be transported back in time to medieval Europe in a grand castle.

Ambience at Versailles de Flore

It isn't just the building that resembles Europe, but the entire cafe grounds. Surrounding the opulent Renaissance-esque building is a majestic garden landscape with statues and a gold water fountain. Imagine being royalty wandering around your castle grounds and dining with lords and ladies (aka your friends)!

The building itself is also quite a marvel, designed with columns, arches, intricate gold details.

The extravagance amps up even further inside, where every inch of the space is decorated with vibrant colours, from the arched windows to the painted ceilings.

Although the architecture is seemingly inspired by the Castle of Versailles, it also has some Thai-style elements like highly saturated colours and native plants.

Food at Versailles de Flore

Contrary to what you'd might expect from the cafe's over-the-top architecture, its menu features unpretentious Western and Asian dishes at pretty reasonable prices.

For the more fitting aesthetic, go for classic brunch fare like the English Breakfast (THB 169, ~SGD 6.57) and Beef Steak (THB 399, ~SGD 15.51).

Alternatively, there's also Asian and fusion cuisine such as Chicken Thai Basil with Fried Egg (THB 89, ~SGD 3.46) and Spaghetti with Shrimp & Thai Herb (THB 189, ~SGD 7.34).

Options for sharing include the Signature Pizza (THB 329, ~SGD 12.78). If you only need a light snack, there are assorted Rolls (THB 119 - 179, ~SGD 4.62 - 6.96) with fillings like shrimp, smoked salmon and eggs & bacon.
