The Fall of Max Payne is for me the first game about the gloomy cap and, as a result, the image of the protagonist of the second part, as well as the images and characters of secondary characters, the atmosphere of light insanity, supported by the design of some decorations, became canonical for me personally. I fell in love with such a "max". I was captivated by the atmosphere with a sort of “ironic hopelessness”, when everything around the protagonist collapses, all loved ones die or betray, but surrounded here and there the ironic dialogues of villains or the main characters pop up and it seems that the full paragraph is happening, but the pharmacy of what is happening forces me to smile.

All of the above concerns my attitude to the game itself, I have passed more than once on a PC, which even after meeting with the first part that happened much later, I consider the best in the original dilogy, for the authorship of Remedy. But now I want to share my impressions of the version of the game about which at the time of acquaintance with Max Payne 2 I could not guess, namely the version for the original Xbox.

I think it’s no secret to anyone that in the zero in Russia only units knew about the existence of any other sixth generation consoles except PlayStation 2. Personally, I was lucky at that time to play Dreamcast a little, which somehow ended up with my friend. But if the SEGA brand was then known to everyone and the existence of their consoles of the latter at that time of the generation could still be imagined, then I personally heard about Xbox only at the time of the Xbox 360 exit. The fact that he was another console I found out after a couple of years.

It is all the Cazeus more interesting to touch the console game library, so little known in our latitudes. And even more interesting to look at the versions of the already famous games created under Xbox Original. In this regard, it is simply gorgeous that on the modern generation of Microsoft consoles you can try a decent number of games not only from the 360th box, but also the original boxing. One of these games was Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which I got acquainted with Xbox Series S.

The first thing is said about when the versions of the game for different platforms are discussed is the appearance. And here I think for anyone will not be a surprise that the game for the console, albeit the most powerful for its time, looks worse than on a PC. Muddy textures, absent effects immediately make it clear that you play in a cut version. However, visual deteriorations are not so critical to cease to enjoy the game, and they are noticeable only in the videos on the game engine, when the virtual operator takes close -ups.

Most of all I worried about the gaming process, namely management. Although I moved to the console with a PC for a very long time, but I understand perfectly well that the shooters of PS2 times on the prefixes were controlled disgusting. Fortunately, Max Payne 2 has practically went around it, it is quite comfortable to manage the character, it’s nice to shoot, thanks to a slightly aggressive auto end. Of course, help in guidance can be disabled, but due to the insufficient sensitivity of the sticks, which, unfortunately, you can’t configure, shootings become one more. In the game, you constantly notice that it was hidden primarily under a PC, this is especially noticeable in the menu of the choice of weapons, which was not adapted to the gamepad and in the heat of the battle to choose a more suitable barrel, sometimes it becomes a non -trivial task. But in general, there is nothing to get used to management in management, which is not very bad for the console version of your time. It is madly pleasing that the developers left the opportunity to persist at any time, which, as far as I know, was not widespread on consoles at that time.

The standard layout allows you to control the max with comfort and despite the opportunity to assign the keys myself, I did not have such a desire.

The weapon selection menu was left unchanged from the PC version, it is a pity that at that time they did not think of the console wheel of the choice of weapons)
