In a historic move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that that Article 370 that grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, would be revoked. He further informed that the state will be bifurcated into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The decision is indeed a new chapter in the history of Indian politics. From asking Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to leave the city to imposing Sec 144, it was not at all easy for the Modi government to maintain peace in the valley amid chaos.

In order to cut the flow of information, the internet and mobile services were also shut down in the city. Not only this, non-residential students were asked to go back to their hometown as soon as possible. When we were watching the news on TV, terrified people of J&K were living it.

As soon as Shah announced in the Rajya Sabha, the internet went ablaze. From politicians to various Bollywood celebs, people have much to say on the subject.

While many people were supporting the government's move, political leaders like Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, who were under house arrests, have different opinions.

Abdullah tweeted, "To the people of Kashmir, we don’t know what is in store for us but I am a firm believer that what ever Almighty Allah has planned it is always for the better, we may not see it now but we must never doubt his ways. Good luck to everyone, stay safe & above all PLEASE STAY CALM."

Meanwhile, Pakistan has reacted to the whole issue. Imran Khan stated that with the revocation of special status from Jammu and Kashmir, Pulwama-like attacks are bound to happen again.

We hope that peace prevails in Kashmir once again!
